FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Former Pro Bowl linebacker C.J. Mosley, who signed a record-setting contract with the New York Jets in 2019, was released Wednesday amid the team's continuing offseason purge.

General manager Darren Mougey and coach Aaron Glenn, both newly hired, already have released three big names -- Mosley, quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Davante Adams. Rodgers and Mosley were captains last season.

Saints restructure contracts of two veteran defenders

New Orleans Saints veterans Cameron Jordan and Tyrann Mathieu have reworked the final years of their respective deals to stay with the team, according to sources. The Saints negotiated a new deal with Mathieu that is play time incentive-based. Jordan reworked his deal on Wednesday and put a post on on social media afterward celebrating Year 15 in the NFL. -- Katherine Terrell, Saints reporter

The New England Patriots are making a change at center that involves one of their franchise pillars over the last decade. David Andrews, an eight-time captain and two-time Super Bowl champion, will no longer be part of the team as the Patriots plan to release him Thursday, multiple sources told ESPN.

STEELERS SIGN A QB

The Steelers have signed a QB, but it's not the one you're thinking of, so sorry if I got you excited.

Mason Rudolph has agreed to a two-year, $8 million deal that includes $4.5 million in guaranteed money, according to NFL Media. Rudolph is returning to the Steelers, the team that made him a third-round pick in 2018. He will presumably be serving as the backup to the starting QB that the Steelers have yet to sign.

    • Redeemed ourselves with a solid middle to end the night....
    • This is spot on, with the first 5 years of a QBs contract being so pivotal, as it should, unless you have Pat Mahomes or the reincarnation of Tom Brady, stats shows once the qb gets paid, the teams Super Bowl chances shrink significantly  what we did to get Bryce was idiotic to say the least, not because of the player(not a Bryce endorsement) but because there’s a long history of proof, making big swings at qb, are usually big misses  find the identify, build around that, and go from there. Unfortunately we don’t have one, and neither the defense nor offense side of the ball are more than good at best
    • Seems like a loaded EDGE class. though I think we don't spend a premium pick there with Scourton/Princely showing production and potential.  Concepcion at 19 is intriguing and seen ARSB comps with his shiftiness, high IQ and YAC ability. He and TMac would be a nasty 1-2 combo at stretching a defense. Brenan Thompson could be that day 2 speedy/slot guy that could boost his draft stock in Mobile.  Sam Hecht could be a later selection for C depending on how we are planning to attack that position in FA and our own previous guys. Shelton from PSU is an interesting developmental tackle that if he can get locked into an NFL strength program and rock up, could be good down the road. Speaking of PSU, Dani Dennis Sutton was a guy last year I was big on and was bummed he headed back to Happy Valley. I think he can be a helluva NFL player, and if he can show improvement in his pass rush moves, I wouldn't be mad at him in a trade-back situation.
