Steve Smith looking for payback from Giants

Steve Smith - - the other Steve Smith, from the Carolina Panthers, not the Giants receiver - - has already added a little spice to Week 1 of the NFL season.

Smith told Peter King of Sports Illustrated that he plans on “going after” Giants safety Michael Johnson in the first game of the year at the New Meadowlands Stadium. Smith is still ticked, apparently, that Johnson delivered the hit that broke Smith’s arm and ended his season in the Giants’ Week 16 loss to the Panthers last season.

You’d think Smith would’ve already gotten a measure of revenge by watching his teammates embarrass the Giants 41-9 in that game, which was the Giants Stadium finale. But apparently he wants more.

Smith also guaranteed he’d be ready to play in that game. Johnson figures to be the Giants’ third safety, unless Kenny Phillips is ready to play, in which case Johnson would be the fourth. So who knows if Smith will even be able to find Johnson that day?

btw...i do think he'll do well against the giants. he'll look to embarrass them even more than they were last year.

i do think he needs to be careful when panthers play the saints. their douche coordinator, douchebag williams, will probably tell their secondary to aim for his arm...late hits are fine, just as long as you hit him and try to re-break his arm.

I've seen a few other articles that refer to our Smith as the "OTHER" Steve Smith. What's up with that?

#12 was able to put up under 300 yards more than #89 with 42 more receptions. Same amount of TDs. Eli had a pretty good year. #89 had to deal with the worst qb of '09 throwing to him for 11 games. If all they are going by is receptions, then they must think '09 #12 is even better than '05 #89. Since #12 had 107 rec, #89 had 103 in '05.

I hate this "other" steve smith crap. come talk to me when this kid is better than Smitty for 3-4 seasons. until then, there is not "other" steve smith, only the One.

Smitty is a proven game breaker anytime he touches the ball, for years, not just one season. get real, this isnt even a comparison. Ask any QB, RB or player on offense which one they would rather have on their team. my guess is, it wouldnt be close....

    • Watched the recent Mic'd up which had the Bucs game. This angle makes that fumble look so much worse, pretty sure it was inbetween Bryce's hands.   bbb.mp4
    • Here is what you did not mention (and I have not read the thread--but will--it is a needed) and that is the MAFF.  He is in a contract year (2026-5th year) and we will not know (in all likelihood) how the knee is healing by the time we have to decide on a mega deal.   If you consider the time it takes to fully heal is 12 months if all goes well, the injury is known to shorten careers.  Of course, a man of 330 lbs who needs agility to perform at a high level makes the injury a bit more serious than it was for Jimmy Graham, for example, who recovered in a remarkable 9 months.  Having said all that, I think he should be moved inside to guard.   While many NFL linemen can return to play after patellar tendon surgery, studies show a significant failure rate and reduced performance, with return-to-play (RTP) rates often cited around 50-56%, meaning roughly 44-50% don't make it back, and even those who do often see reduced careers and statistics, highlighting it as a devastating injury for linemen." I think you have to go after an elite OT, and I think it should be a first rounder because you don't sign elite LTs in free agency.  Ickey is already going to get paid $18m or so in 2026.    However, the money you save by not locking him down long term could go to a free agent edge or ILB.  It is very complicated if you start factoring in contracts, risks, cap, and the odds of recovery.
    • Yes, we played the 2nd most cover 3 in the NFL behind the Raiders.   The flats and seams are the areas you want to attack it so its soft spots are areas qbs can hit quickly which can definitely hurt the pass rush.
