Firstdayfan's Fanfest Observations...

Very nice read firstdayfan. Props to you. It's so rough being surrounded by Patriots talk and I'm glad I have something to read to escape the madness. For one reason or another I haven't been particularly worried about our defense this off-season, this just helped to boost my confidence even more. A Ron Meeks defense is going to be fast and force turnovers and it looks as though our personnel is spot on for that.

Honestly if I had to go with an MVP from yesterday (I'm not making a thread about this) it'd have been Tank Tyler, easily. Also the fact that people are letting Moore get away with so much astounds me. I remember when Jake would be like 7-11 for 50 yards, and he would be labeled as terrible, Moore is sub-50%, less than 30 yards and honestly, that sideline pass, if in a game, would've been six the other way 9 times out of 10. I thought Clausen looked better than any of them out there, but it's tough to showcase your arm and throw downfield when you have an end and a tackle coming after you with just two holds separating them and you, so he showed off his mobility and pocket presence.

Regardless, it's Moore's job. It's so obvious this is his team, and he's earned that right. But that pass was very '09 Jake-esque, escaping the rush, only to throw it to a DB. Hopefully those kinks are worked out and he gets some better protection up front.

I am much happier that our defense dominated yesterday's fanfest than I would have been if the offense had dominated. Here is why:

1. Defenses are always ahead of offenses in TC

2. We did not have Otah, Smitty, Stewart, and Williams for most of the day.

3. We KNOW what we have in our OLine. They are rock solid.

4. We were all worried about our DLine....and they are coming out and shining.

Hardy is a beast....Norwood is damn good....Conner is making play after play in the middle....Beason is putting on a clinic in TC...our young guys in the secondary (Captain, Sanford, CJ, etc. are all performing).

I am waiting until the first 3 games of the regular season before I get too optimistic or pessimistic.

However, from what I have seen, I still stand by at least 10 wins.

I was really looking forward to seeing Stanford and McClain but like I said there were really not many passes. The person that got toasted on the Kenny Moore bomb was witherspoon, who wasn't even doing punt returns. I don't think he makes it even though he was ahead of the rooks a corner.

Oh and all I can say to the matt Moore analysis was that I feel like he hasn't burned the fan base as many times as Jake had. We were ready for jake to be done but had no other alternative. We expected more from him and therefore put more blame on him.

And I don't agree about clausen when it came to signing autographs...he was one of the last ones off the field.

When Moore's production sucks, he never gets blamed on here we just say what a great job the defense did. Then we justify it further by saying how much better he is then the other QBs based on non-production factors like "poise" and "command of the offense".

well, Moore has never really sucked before. He was off in NE this year the NE would allowed him to have a great day with the holes in the secondary....but overall in 07 and 09 he has done exactly what was asked of him.

Fair enough. I like to state openly that I am a JC fan but do so in order to make objective posts. I've been one of the first to critcize him for being too timid and checking down too much, even if it was the better option. Same with Moore though. For as poised as he has appeared during camp, Fox said it best when he qualified Moore's progress by saying that production on the field is all that really matters. I think Moore had a bad scrimmage and it can't all be blamed on the offense. He's going to get lots of reps in the preseaon but my fear (especially with some on this board), is that we are going to lose sight of the big picture. If Moore goes back to playing the "game manager" this team is not going to move forward. We are going to be mediocre. It's on him to make things happen downfield, no excuses. He needs to become the difference maker. I think he can but am not going to make any excuses if he doesn't.
