Kicking Game ?????

I have not seen or read anything on the kicking game. Who will be doing the kick offs this year ? How has this person looked in TC ? Is this going to be a weekness this year ?

I'm guessing Baker will be handling the kick off duties this year. From what I hear about this other guy in camp, people would rather kasay be kicking off! We are never really solid in the kicking game....it seems like we are off and on. every few years some guy will come in and wow everybody...and then he will turn out to be an asshole that juices up....or we will get a guy that can kick it way out of the endzone, then completely lose his ability to do the same thing the next year.

I guess my money will be on an average Jason Baker kicking off, and Kasay still booming FG'S from 40+.....atleast more than not they are gonna be solid anyway....

I am still wondering why we are taking up two roster spots that every other team only takes up one to cover. Seriously, if a kicker can no longer do kickoffs, cut him. There are kickers out there that can do both.

If our special teams unit could cover anything faster than a grandmother on a Rascal on returns, it wouldn't matter so much that Kasay / Baker was only putting it on the 10 / 15 yard line.

Hopefully with Crossman gone and some dedicated gunners brought in (like Wright), we can improve.

Last year, despite having one of the top raw kickoff distances thanks to Lloyd, we had one of the worst average defensive starting positions, thanks to the terrible coverage, and that's with touchbacks averaged in!

Slightly off topic: Is kicking off really that hard? To me it seems like it should be a lot easier than FGs or Punting. You don't have anyone rushing to block it and you don't have to be tremendously accurate. It seems like the main skill required is having a strong leg. I can understand why Kasay can't do it.

What I don't understand is why we never see a regular position player doing it. I'm sure a fair amount of players, especially younger players, played some soccer when they were younger. I bet that after a few seasons of practicing there are plenty of DB's or WR's that could teach themselves to kickoff. It seems like it would be a very learnable skill.

This would be a huge advantage as well, having 11 guys out there that can make a tackle. Can anyone explain why this has never been done?

Probably cuz 99% of FG kickers CAN kickoff and do a decent job and you have to have a kicker, so why not give him some more work to do?

Ochocinco kicked off once last year for the Bungles and did a decent job.

    • Bryce has been playing the best ball of his career the last three games IMO. He wasn't the reason we dropped the game in NOLA. Seattle's defense will be his toughest challenge yet this season
    • I'll be at the game Sunday and up until last year I had a perfect attendance record. Now however I have seen us lose to the Chiefs (last year) and the Bills (this year). So we can no longer rely solely on my ability to pound overpriced beers to propel us to a win.
    • I haven't been able to watch Seattle on a dedicated basis but the Seahawks are a much better team by the all accounts: eye test, record and DVOA. Defensively they are sick. Best DVOA in the league first in rushing and second in passing. Offensively their passing game has been on fire this year led by JSN I can easily see this being like the Buffalo game where things just get out of hand for us early, that being said this league really is week to week and Seattle does have the disadvantage of traveling cross country for an early game.  If and big if, the Panthers are able to effectively run the ball and limit the amount of time Seattle's offense has to generate explosive plays we have a path to winning this game.  Seattle fans won't be happy to hear this but bad Darnold is always lurking in the background. He is truly an enigma to root for bc he will have an incredible throw that only a few people can make but then will turn around and throw the most bone headed pick of all time.  I think ultimately we drop this one as ultimately it's human nature to be looking forward to that week 18 game. But man how special would it be to be leaving the stadium on Sunday with a win and a miracle dolphins upset
