Should Matt Moore feel pressured by Clausen?

Moore should have started feeling pressure as soon as Clausen was drafted.

Exactly. Some guys are confusing a quasi-franchise quarterback (Delhomme) with a guy that won some games late last season. To think he is entitled to the same stretch is crazy. I guarantee you Fox will not let Moore play poorly for 11 games without trying Clausen. You can quote me :)

I'm not sure Moore will have the same leeway that Delhomme did. Delhomme was a seven year starter, had taken us to a Super Bowl, and played pretty well the previous season up until the playoff debacle. The staff certainly stuck with him too long and that either shows that the staff had too much loyalty Delhomme, not much confidence in Moore, or perhaps both. I think it was a little bit of both. I think drafting not one, but two QBs in this year's draft somewhat supports this as well.

I believe Moore will have his chance, but I think given Fox's history of loyalty, he's going to be playing with a surprisingly short leash - especially if Clausen continues to play like he did last night. I mean, Rodney Peete got the hook after one half. That's how the Delhomme era began. I'm not sure Moore's leash will be THAT short, but two back to back poor outings could usher in the Clausen era.

This. Fox really liked Delhomme, I don't think Moore has as much leeway.

Rodney Peete was benched for Jake in Game one of the season so i don't think its out of the question for Moore to get benched if he doesn't perform. Also I think the front office is calling the shots at this point and not Fox.

Moore won games last season vs. teams that had nothing to play for so i hardly think that crowns him the unquestioned starter. I'd like to see how he does vs teams that have prepared for him or in games that actually mean something to the opposing team.

oh, BTW long time reader 1st time poster.

Delhomme was a 7 year starter, a recent recipient of a huge contract, and he had massive rapport with the coaching staff. These are the reasons that Delhomme was afforded the leniency to fail time after time. If you honestly believe that Moore will be given the same time frame to turn things around you are sadly mistaken.

um... Derek Anderson, Jake Delhomme, Tom Brady... correct me if I'm wrong, and I'll gladly admit that I'm wrong... but didn't those guys get a chance to start because the person in front of them sucked just after a few games?

But I don't think Moore will suck that bad, if he sucks at all. It's one preseason game, and he's just gotta knock all the rust off, click with the mates, and they'll be off and running.

Derek Anderson was when? Jake took over as a starter in 2003 and Brady was 2001 or 2002? So you've named 3 QBs over at least an 8-year span? That's 4096 NFL regular season games over an 8-year period and you were able to name 3 QBs who took over because their predecessor sucked.

Fixed

ROFL.....no need to fix my post.

the only game he won that meant anything was the Viking game which he played well vs. an injured viking secondary.

the Bucs, NYG and Saints wins were junk wins and he hardly lit those teams up.

You're kidding, right? The media and fanbase asked for Moore to "at least have a shot in one game" for the better part of an entire season while Jake threw picks left and right and suffered through one miserable performance after another. Moore never got his opportunity until Jake got hurt. Why on Earth would anyone suggest that anything will be different?

Look around the NFL- just how often do you see a QB get benched for a bad outing or 2? The frequency of that occurrence is extremely rare in the NFL, regardless of the position.

Hell, Jordan Gross had a bad night, why don't we all start calling for his replacement?

You're kidding, right? Moore is still a noob. Looking at it from the perspective of experience, Moore is like a teenager when it comes to Delhomme and Gross. He hasn't proven himself. He doesn't have it like that.

It is only natural and logical for Moore to feel some pressure, and even more after Clausen's poised performance in his NFL debut. Anyone that thinks otherwise doesn't have the experience to answer the question.

I've always like your postings, but other than retirement, is there any other way for a QB to take over than their predecessor failing to deliver? Guys presumed to be quality QBs don't get walked in free agency.

I'll give you the Saints and Bucs.

The Giants on the other hand, had everything to play for. At the time of that game the Giants were still in playoff contention. Not only were their playoff hopes still alive, they were playing in their last game ever at Giants Stadium, with a lot of their legendary former players in attendance.
