's preseason performance Friday night ran the gamut from spectacular to disastrous, but Andy Reid and Eagles fans should come away from it optimistic.

The explosive is back.

Courtesy of NFL.com's , I watched Vick display far more short area quickness than he ever did in 2009. Vick rushed four times for 45 yards in the first half, including a 10-yard score that showed off impressive moves. He had the speed to get to the edge of the defense again.

Vick's first half throwing the ball was predictably erratic. Vick dropped a gorgeous 46-yard toss in the bucket to on the backup's second snap of the game, but Vick also turned the ball over twice. He lost a fumble early on a comically poor decision, and he then threw an interception on a miscommunication with rookie .

Still, Vick showed the elusiveness that, well, eluded him last year. He flashed his old talent more on Friday night than all of last year combined.

The Eagles don't need Vick to be a true drop-back quarterback. But it sure looks like he'll be a bigger weapon as a runner/Wildcat option this year.

As the native Jaguars fan here I would like to point a few things out. Our defensive line is so pitiful that we weren't strong enough most times to get to the QB last year. And on those times we were strong enough, we were too slow to actually get to him and bring him down. We only produces 12 sacks as a team. So when we finally do get near a guy like Vick, all he has to do is dash two feet forward and he is going to have plenty of room before my linebackers pick him up and get near him.

He did look a lot better last night than last year but that was to be expected. Unfortunately, it was likely the worst team to make any judgment on about how explosive a QB is.

Oh, I thought maybe he was hunting training dogs again.

My buddy's ten year old son is a pretty quick wit, and has more football knowledge than some adults I know.

I was talking to his dad around the time the shooting news hit, and said "Ya hear Michael Vick's in trouble again?"

Buddy responded "No, what for?"

Kid piped up and said "Catfighting?" :lol:

      Here is what you did not mention (and I have not read the thread--but will--it is a needed) and that is the MAFF.  He is in a contract year (2026-5th year) and we will not know (in all likelihood) how the knee is healing by the time we have to decide on a mega deal.   If you consider the time it takes to fully heal is 12 months if all goes well, the injury is known to shorten careers.  Of course, a man of 330 lbs who needs agility to perform at a high level makes the injury a bit more serious than it was for Jimmy Graham, for example, who recovered in a remarkable 9 months.  Having said all that, I think he should be moved inside to guard.   While many NFL linemen can return to play after patellar tendon surgery, studies show a significant failure rate and reduced performance, with return-to-play (RTP) rates often cited around 50-56%, meaning roughly 44-50% don't make it back, and even those who do often see reduced careers and statistics, highlighting it as a devastating injury for linemen." I think you have to go after an elite OT, and I think it should be a first rounder because you don't sign elite LTs in free agency.  Ickey is already going to get paid $18m or so in 2026.    However, the money you save by not locking him down long term could go to a free agent edge or ILB.  It is very complicated if you start factoring in contracts, risks, cap, and the odds of recovery.

      Yes, we played the 2nd most cover 3 in the NFL behind the Raiders.   The flats and seams are the areas you want to attack it so its soft spots are areas qbs can hit quickly which can definitely hurt the pass rush.
