Mark Jones... Where are you???

He was such a consistent kick and punt returner. Even though he didnt take a kick all the back he would put us in some GREAT field position. Why did we cut him?

2008 Season stats

Kick return yards: 958 Punt return yards: 443

Longest return: 59yds Longest punt: 55yds

Average yards per return: 24 Average yards per return: 11.4

We havent found anything close to this since.

smh at all the times I read "why did we cut him" when that player left via FA.

Jones has a bum quad and hamstring. He is done in the NFL.

He did understand that kick returning was about running up the field with only one cut or change of direction, if necessary. Captain and Kenny Moore understood that last night (though they both fumbled the ball). The inability to run straight ahead is also why Rhyne Robinson never amounted to much of a returner.

he was a top 5 returner in the league that year.. if it was so easy, we should have just kept what wasn't broken.. apparently, if you don't return one for a TD, you suck.. which goes for 90% of PR/KRers.. :)

unfortunately, he had some issue with passing a physical.. that's what was a shame..

Its funny, we got some stability at Punt returner in Mark Jones in 2008 then the next season it was like...Nah... we dont need you! Umm...average offensive production but starting at the 45 yrd line helps.

Oh the management...I actually like Hurney but what seems like the obvious no-brainer move is made just so complicated sometimes. In 2009 Ryne Robinson coming off of an knee injury was one of the factors not to sign Mark Jones.

one factor that had fans up in arms about not needing Mark Jones and reassured them we were better without him.. funny, but that reassurance didn't make the field... lol

you can tell who gets it and who doesn't by asking if someone likes Mark Jones..

now, in the end, he couldn't pass a physical, but none of that was known/relevant at the time..

Had to cut someone to give Jake all that money.

right.. and that couldn't have been anyone other than the most consistent returner we've had in years.. lol

    • Geno fits Canales and fits the O.  It’s why Geno worked in Seattle and not Oakland.  He is a deep ball passer.  NFL is about fit.  Geno would beat Bryce out in 2 weeks in a real camp battle.  Which ain’t Geno praise.  It’s just recognition Geno is a round peg and that is what we are lacking
    • Awesome idea.  Let's make Cincinnati an offer.  I'm 100% sure they are ready to give up on Burrow. That is if you can keep him on the field.  He's been available how many games over that past 3 seasons? Getting Burrow is about as realistic as finding the allusive Rainbow Unicorn.  Do you realize that Young was responsible for 19 of the 40 yards on that final drive? Rico had 21 yards. Both of those completions were for first downs.  That's what game winning drives require.  It doesn't require the QB to throw the ball each and every down.  You do know this? It's clear that you won't give credit where credit is due.   While Bryce isn't your typical "Franchise QB" he's running the gameplan our coaching staff designs.  Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Bryce sucks because you say so.
    • This team is built to win, which I said at the start of the season. I'm not saying we are a super bowl contender, but it's a playoff roster.  The big handcuff is at the QB position.  If Bryce Young cannot start playing at a professional level we are going to continue struggling and stealing wins instead of punching people in the mouth like we should.  The reality is we should be sitting at 2 losses and have blown several teams out, including Green Bay, but having absolutely NOTHING in the passing game is holding us back badly.  Point being, in this current scenario our best hope is that we barely make the playoffs and get absolutely obliterated in the first round.
