D-line vs. Tennessee O-line

Recommended Posts

Last year, the Titans finished with the second best number of sacks allowed and the second best rushing system in the league. So far, they still rank pretty high in the preseason stats in both of those catagories, thanks to some decent turnover in a well established line. The new players and the depth chart do not appear to be weaknesses for them. So, having said all of that, how do you think our own promising defensive line will fare against them?

they have a pretty solid oline. but so did the Jets...I think we will do fine. Im more concerned about getting that passing game going. their secondary has a good safety in Hope and a really good corner in Finnegan

Tenn has much better options running behind the OL. Jets were the number one running team last year but the team we faced lost the talent that produced the majority of that production.

I think Vince Young is gonna look like poo with our D, also, CJ will prolly break off a good run or two, but I think this will not be like the past 2 games and our RB's will look better and the receivers will step up.

I sure hope he does. It would also be nice to hold CJ to like a 3 YPC average.

Will be a good test for our pass rush. We've had two good outings against what I consider stationary pocket QB's, not much mobility. Young can be elusive, and it will be interesting to see if we over-pursue and give him roll out passing lanes, or if they go with more of an edge contain to keep him from scrambling.

That might require a gameplan though, and it is preseason...and I'm talking out of my ass a little.

we don't handle running QBs that well. more recently...Josh Johnson and Josh Freeman. I mean as long as they are throwing the ball is all good. But when they start running around them seem to eat us up. I still remember the Tennessee game from 2007...

That was with our old, slow defensive line but now we have fresh blood and a lot of faster bodies to help contain. It'll be interesting to see what happens but I'm not so worried about that now.

    • I agree.  I don’t think I have ever been accused of being a Howell fan. No more than fan of some other random QB.   But I watched and I saw. He has some talent. Maybe I didn’t watch close enough to see his weaknesses.
    • He is a pit bull when it comes to that.  And after he missed out last year on Williams, it seems he is trying a different approach, looks like. Don’t hold back. No half measures, because someone will come and full measure your ass. Close the deal. He left a little opening for The Patriots last year.  He closed so far this year. Of what we know about.
    • They have been doing the mercenary one year RB now for a little while. Foreman..  It works pretty well. You can find ball carriers. The passing game trips a lot of those guys up. Pass blocking, route running, they have a lot to know.    Rico wasn’t a great pass blocker but he got in the way most of the time. He is a really good pass catcher.     He’s tough. Needs to find out why he was cramping late in the games. If he can fix that maybe can step up even more. Wish him luck. I think he’ll do well.    If Brooks can be something, what a bonus that would be at this point.  I really believe they went for him because of his extra layer with being a good receiver. And we need more of that with what we are working with trying to move the ball.
