Goodson in the slot

Recommended Posts

He needs the ball in the open field. KO return, third down back--you can motion him out from the RB spot if you want him wide. The D would have to respect the screen which would ease the blitzing. No sense knocking a WR out of a job when they are developing. Besides, Goodson is not good at route running from what I have seen.

I really think he's capable of doing it. Aside from the fumbles on returns, Goodson has shown good hands when thrown to (I'm thinking specifically of that great sideline catch from last preseason where he got his toes down before going out). He has the speed, and he's a threat once the ball's in his hands.

The way our receivers look, I'd much prefer to have two backs on the field at the same time with the option to check down to one of them.

You have to be able to catch more than just little dump off passes out of the backfield in order to play slot receiver. I'm sure that if Goodson had the hands of a receiver then he already would have gotten some reps in the slot. Lets just hope that LaFell, Rosario and Jarrett can make some plays. If the distribution can be:

Smith - 6 per game

Rosario/Barnridge/King - 6 per game

Dwill/JStew: 7 per game

LaFell - 3 per game

Jarrett - 2 per game

That'll be around 24 completions and will keep teams honest so the running game can do the rest. I honestly don't think its unrealistic to think that those players can put up those stats. We have enough weapons to do it.

    • when we drafted Bryce Young that team might have been more talented than the team we currently have ?  that was the whole reasoning behind morgagting  our immediate future to trade up to #1 overall for BY. our front offices & owners felt like hey guess what the time is now to srike while the iron is hot go hire an All Star coaching staff we were only a Qb away from taking that next step ..just saying
    • I just dont get the worry over losing a practice squad player that just went undrafted. Everyone just made their selections. The chances of a team wanting to sign him to an active roster after not selecting him is very low.  If that interested they would have taken him late to evaluate in person. As far as I can tell two qbs were signed off another teams practice squad last season and they were both going in to their 5th season.
    • I enjoyed reading this thread and the usual banter that follows. The only silver lining I can identify right now is we do actually have a couple of young QB's behind him and we do have a nice roster on both sides of the ball built around the most important position. So if the team overall shows some promise but we still falter largely due to a lack of consistent passing output (again) hopefully the decision makers can be free to make the best decision for the team going forward after the conclusion of this upcoming season.
