Goodson

Don't forget the primary purpose of a Panther receiver is to block 8 yards downfield. Had Goodson shown us anything there yet?

Actually, he hasn't looked bad at all this preseason. I remember reading in training camp that he volunteered to take blitz pick-ups against Beason because "to be the best, you have to beat the best."

I've been saying we should use Goodson like the Saints use Reggie Bush ever since the day he was drafted. I'd love to see him catching those check down passes. Granted, I'd love to see more passes to all of our backs, and I think we will this year as we're waiting for the young receivers to step their game up.

I didnt respond because I sensed some sarcasm coming from his post with the "primary" word

But if he wasn't, passing plays? Why would he be in on a running down?

he's not bad, and the year let him grow a bit, but he's arguably our third best back on a team that's already run-heavy. Now if you just set aside whether Sutton is better, and whether or not Goodson would dress over him, then it's still "we have two backs that are top ten in the league and we don't have enough touches for both of them some games, why do we need to get cute with our extra backs?"

I say utilize Goodson as much as possible...show off his talents as a slot receiver and 3rd down back at times (if someone's dinged up) and in the kickoffs. Build his stock and sell right before trade deadline to teams decimated by injuries (if they occur)

Yep, this is what I was thinking too. Maybe line him up in the backfield and motion him to the slot for slant routes. I don't know if he could run deep routes well against CB's, but I would like to see him in short yardage situations, breaking LB's ankles through the underneath.

You could really throw DC's for a loop by using Rosario at FB, Goodsoon at RB and have them both split out wide pre-snap for a four wide vs LB's.

If we had an abundance of great receivers, I'd be inclined to agree with you. I really think that -- at least at this time -- Goodson could be a better slot option than anyone else on the team (save for Smith). It's a matter of getting as many of our best players on the field as we can at one time. To do this, I think you'll see lots of two tight-end sets this year, and lots of passes to the backs.

dude i couldnt agree more, michael goodson is the same height and weight as reggie b. and probably as fast but might not be as lightning quick. and now, neither one of them has the highsmen trophy!!!LOL!!! at least with goodson youd know hes gonna at least get a couple kickoff return touch downs because of how fast he is.

    • This season only ends one way... We win this Sunday. Bryce is decent. We take back 1st place...   Only to then get our brakes blown off in the last two weeks.
    • Here's one of the most maddening things, that will be shown in full light over the next three weeks. The same people around here that called Darnold a bum and Mayfield a washed up over draft are also the ones saying Bryce is a catastrophe. Yeah, and I've been one who said Bryce wasn't big enough, brave enough or capable enough. I said back in the day that Darnold had a lot of fight in him and got shouted down. And on Mayfield, heck I didn't know, I just knew we had a very, very bad team that was run terribly. But I saw both of those guys go out there and resurrect their careers and be play-off bound since shaking the Carolina clay dust off their cleats. And we sat there and cat called their cars as they pulled out of the parking lot, laughing at what nobodies they were. Over the next three weeks, those two guys may just serve us sh!t sandwiches and then settle down to their just desserts. And then we'll probably let Bryce go off into the realm of other teams. And when that happens, will we see him coming back, better than before and we're left to re-sit this cycle all over again? Same naysayers, same results, same revolving carousel of ponies and pundits?  Will we end up looking like the Temu version of the San Diego Chargers back in the day watching Drew Brees come to fruition in the previously moribund Superdome while we whiff on a Manning pick just to be jilted for Phillip "Always a Bridesmaid" Rivers?
