uncreative, conceptually deficient playcalling? Check.

terribly inconsistent defensive Jekyll/Hyde performance? Check.

lack of adjustments after halftime? double check.

turnover prone QBing? check.

making new coordinators look like they're already running a worldbeating unit? check.

This almost felt like a rerun of week 1, 2009. Today we played the Giants defense, which is in its first game with a new coordinator. No other team could have given them a better practice squad to help them thrive already. We've seen the same kind of game from the Panthers time and time again, and it's totally boring to me. You tell me how running the most vanilla offense you could think of is a winning trend in the league today. The best teams have thriving offenses and passing games which are independent from the run. John Fox, however, is convinced that "ESTABLISHING THE RUN TO OPEN UP THE PASS" is a foolhardy philosophy that has time and time again spurred results. But what he doesn't get is, in today's NFL, you know, the one that's not 25 years ago, a team whose passing game is dependent on their running game or vice versa will be proven to be one dimensional. You don't run, you don't pass, you don't score, you don't win. Plain and simple.

If this "boring" formula for offense as I call it actually worked, i wouldn't mind it at all. I would swear by the insomnia curing offense as a thing of genius. But it hasn't. As a matter of fact, with the exception of 2 seasons, our offense has flopped miserably, always dragging along in the late teens or worse.

Most of us have already had enough of this gridiron gag reel fox is running, and if today was any indicator of what we're in for i honestly can't wait until it's the 2011 offseason and we're interviewing new coaches. And even if the next coach is no better, there's still probably a 99.9% chance he has some ideas to incorporate in his game that'll at least give us a little surprise here and there and make Panthers football a bit more interesting.

Fox Ball. Setting up the run with the pass. Always been like that also will be like that. I do like the concept of smash mouth simple football. But you still have to attempt to run the ball.

I think one of the reasons JR gave Fox a young group this year is to expose Fox and see if he's worth keeping or not. To see if it's his philosophy or if it was the players that were bad last season. It's like giving Fox a bunch of robots and programming his philosophy into them. The young guys will do what he says. If what he says fails, then he lets Fox walk. If what he says works, he'll extend Fox. So far it looks like Fox is failing hard.

on a side note, regarding debates about whether or not he is a good coach, anybody notice fox has accomplished little if any significant conquests ever since these serious debates have been commonplace? (circa 2006) He's basically offered nothing new for his serious believers to bring up besides an NFC South championship. That's not exactly what I'd call an impressive resume from 2006-2010.

Unable to adapt. Keeping the same philosophy year after year while teams change will eventually run its course. As I mentioned in one of these threads, for the like the past 2 seasons I've been saying we need more and better shotgun plays. Spread it out in the shotgun formation, in 2010 its like one of the main passing formations and we're horrible at it. Why?

Also he's a DC, he has too much input in the O btw. He should entrust Jeff to control the O the way he see fit. poo I'll be totally fine if half-way through the season things not looking good, we let Fox go and see what Davidson do as HC, or even Meeks. Wtf we have to lose? Not a damn thing

Well in the OC's defense Fox has his fingers dipped in almost everything the offense does. Unlike the Defense where you could sense the drastic change in it's philosophy, play, and energy when Meeks was given the reigns.

Fox just needs to step back a little.

i disagree, i think one thing we'd have to lose by doing that would be the ability for Fox to save face by winning games with no playoff contention implications and looking impressive against a qualifying team's second string on week 17
