this was done for one reason, to save fox's job!

and it worked! they won the division and made the #2 spot in the playoffs. this gave fox more time. the problem now is we have a harder schedule next season, no #1 pick, and possibility of losing both peppers and gross.

you heard it hear first, 2009 will be a losing season and fox finally gets the boot!

woooohoooo.... can't wait till 2010!

But was he worth an additional 2nd and 4th.

Otah is very very good but there are still some very real concerns about his injury history and his ability to play through pain. Let's not go beating our chests just yet.

At Pittsburgh he played a full season with an ankle sprain. He played through a lot of pain. If you remember he went to the combine with it and competed, then we held him out of any work for a month or two so he would ready for the season. Seems that the difference is that in college he isn't treated like a commodity so they need him don't have a back-up and he plays. At the pro level (especially for the Panthers) they seem overly cautious about playing guys it seems not wanting he hurt their long term value by recurring injuries) In other words when you have 50 million invested in a player they seem less likely to have him play through pain or injuries. Particularly when they think they have a back-up who can readily fill-in. At least that it was it appears to me although it really should be the other way around.

<------ I think you can guess my answer to the question.

My authentic black #79 Otah jersey was delivered to my office this morning. Gonna pick it up on the way home if US Air would get their head out of their ass and get me home from Chicago today.

you don't find premiere offensive linemen in the end of the first round.... great trade, I am certain we would do it again if we could.

Sam Baker did very well for ATL this year, and he was a late first.

Actually, Atlanta hit pretty good on several of their picks............(what a shame)

For the first time I really feel good about our offensive line. I mean they're not the best pass blockers, but they can really run block like hell. Otah is the best offensive lineman we have imo, so yes I think he was well worth it.

Actually, the pass blocking was very good for the most part. In fact, the line set a new franchise record for the lowest number of sacks allowed (20).

I don't know if I agree that Otah is our best lineman but he does have the most potential of the bunch. I would say that Wharton was actually our best lineman this past season because he excelled in both pass and run blocking. Gross was exceptional as well but leading the team in false starts brings him down a notch.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
