What we didn't see in week one

So since we've talked some about matchups in other threads, here's something I'm wondering.

In preseason three, we saw a fair amount of motion and alignment shifts out of the offense. It made me wonder if that's something they were going to do more this season in an attempt to dictate the matchups they wanted (something I wish our offense did more often, honestly).

In week one, can't recall seeing that much of it.

Now, the personnel set in preseason three wouldn't be exactly the same - no need to declare inactives in preseason, after all - so i wonder if that makes the difference. And if so, with the distinct possibility that Armanti Edwards plays tomorrow, will they try it this time?

I think we were so worried about blocking their D-line that the entire offense panicked, co-ordinaters and all thats what it looked like to me.

oh.....you remember seeing it. Remember....the TE lines up wide right and then comes in motion towards the ball and is right next to the RT when the ball is snapped. You remember.......don't ya?

How about some runs to the outside? Dwill and stewart are excellent at running sweeps and toss plays.

I agree on more runs to the outside. Panthers were stubborn with trying to go inside. I mean if you have mainly Smitty outside, spread the D out some.

And yes, Im gonna ask for more screens and end arounds.

Screens are down across the league, largely because linebacker speed is up. There are, of course, some teams that still do it pretty well though. And with the open field runners that we have, I'd like to think we could be one of them.

I wondered why we haven't seen more use of screens utilizing D-Will and Goodson's speed. Use Stewart to pound it up the middle.

Playbook actually had film showing how Moore threatened with the screen to open the running lanes. Actually froze the MLB. The 3rd time, however, the run lane was closed and Baldinger was yelling to throw the ball because the middle of the field was open. Moore instead hung onto the ball & was sacked.

So screens are very possible. QB decision making is key.

There could be a lot more creativity put in to our play calling and still keep the run first approach. Which I like really to tell you the truth.

that was so obvious even my wife was asking why the hell we r still running right up the gut, I hope to see runs to the outside and I did notice the motion and trying to get a good matchup and I liked it, just hope we can capitalize on it when we get a lb or fs matched up with smitty

Matt didn't go through all of his progressions in the red zone/giants field and didn't see much of stewart at all.
