Clausen gets advice support, ahead of first start

really...if this is true then you just said that moore didnt have a chance...

he probably didn't. thats not to say he was set up to fail. moore just very well may be lesser of a QB than clausen despite his experience and time in the league. some people are just naturally more gifted or are provided with more opportunities for growth due to better teaching/mentoring/coaching than others. clausen probably just has more natural talent and has for sure received better coaching and training than moore has. it isn't moore's fault. he's just unlucky.

hte moment that he gets his chance, the unexpected happens and clausen falls into the panthers lap. if clausen is as good as many, including myself. thinks he can be then they had no choice but to go after clausen.

moore had his chance and he couldn't capitalize on it. despite giving everything he had, it just wasn't enough to overcome the pressures of the game or the fact that there was clausen behind him.

i like moore a lot and had really high hopes for him. i love what he did for us last year. i just think that he is losing out to a much better QB that i am grateful we have.

The knock on Clausen by most analysts was never about his skills or his football IQ, but potential attitude and chemistry issues (which, imo, were overblown).

We'll see, Clausen has created an excitement around this team that hasn't been seen... in a long time. While there was a huge push for Moore last year, it was as much out of desperation as anything. The Clausen movement seems a different beast all together.

edit: RE: Charlie Weiss... I wouldn't be opposed to him as HC depending on who else is available, to be honest, and depending on who sticks around in defense. I do not think Weiss' failures at ND is indicative of the strength of his coaching ability, but mebbe I'm wrong. I'm not totally aware of his entire resume, so. I just would like a HC that is a departure from John Fox. >.<

Exactly. I'm not knocking Moore, he gave life to our team last season. But one of the biggest reasons he looked so good in tha fans' eyes was that he simply WASN'T JAKE. But now that we have an equally (maybe better) option, with a lot more hype surrounding him, fans are getting excited about the rest of the year and the rest of Clausen's future here if he is indeed the real deal.

Weiss' big downfall was his inability to recruit, namely on the OL and the D. It really doesn't matter who you have at QB or how well he is coached if no one is blocking for him and the D is letting Bob Jones University score 65 points.

charlie weis would make a great hc in carolina. he was unsuccessful in college because he was a pro style coach. consequently, brian kelly who is an amazing college coach is starting with all the same players (except clausen and tate who were replaced by very capable guys) and has a worse record than weis at this point last year.

The only way Weis would work as our HC is if he also acted as our OC and gave the DC autonomy to run the defense as he sees fit. My guess is if Weis were hired (don't think that will happen, but never say never) he would likely keep Davidson on board, but have his hands all over the offense.

I would say another knock is his long ball, very Delhomme like in that he had Tate and Michael Floyd and would just loft it in there and let one of them make a play.....This is concerning considering a receivers are terrible outside Smitty
