I've said this many times but watching Blair White come off of Indy's practice squad and make an impact just makes me want to pull my hair out....

Want to know why players like Julian Edelman, Austin Collie, Pierre Garcon, Brandon Tate, Deion Branch etc etc are or ever were considered good receivers, or looking like impact players early in their careers??

The QB, these teams have QB's that can get the receivers the ball 99% of the time whether they have separation or not. Not only can they get the ball to these no name receivers but they can put it right on the numbers in tight windows. Not at their knees, not where they have to leap three feet in the air but where they can catch and cradle the ball away from the defender on them. Until we have a QB who can do that we will be frustrated with playmakers in the receiving game. Hopefully Clausen can be that guy, if he can our receivers will look much better because of it....

I think its a mixture, but I agree.

Oh definitely, it would be great to have a guy like Boldin or Vincent Jackson but it wouldn't change the face that a lot of passes haven't been catchable. Until the QB, whoever it is, fixes that I don't think it matters who lines up at WR....

I think it is just the offensive playcalling and decisions made on the sidelines. Replace those guys and it will solve a lot of the offensive problems.

Yea it helps if we aren't doing run, run, pass everytime down the field but we also aren't executing on a lot of the pass plays because of the QB's accuracy. Either way Clausen looked fairly good today for a rookie in his first start, it could have gone much worse and I think he could be that guy we need under center to take the talent we have to the level the fans want it at. Not this year though....

Do you know what else they had in common? They all play in a spread style offense that relys mostly on confusing the D and overwhelming them with many recievers at multiple levels and positions of a "passing tree".

The Panthers play a tighter type of game. Relying more on the run game and the play action to set up the deep ball. This works about as well as a spread style system IF all facets are running smoothly.

Right now though the O has too many issues to be able to execute ANY type of game plan successfully. The QB needs to become more accurate so that the D is not allowed to stack the box. The run game needs to get better so that the QB does not have 8 guys coming at him on a "run" blitz that ends at the QB and so that the play-action will work.

I have some hope for the future watching our second half O. That is more of the way the Panther style of O should be run. If Davidson can start to trust Jimmy a little more and open the playbook some our O as a whole should open up.

Peete, Delhomme, Carr, Moore, Clausen....a pattern? Hmmm, wonder what it is? Other than they are all backup quality (except Delhomme for a couple of years) or a rookie. What or more so, WHO could have put the Panthers in that QB situation???

Don't forget WR (and TE), who have we REALLY had (and at point in their careers)?

Agree a mixture, but WHO is to blame??? We cannot seem to develop a WR or a QB and only want blocking TEs (exception Walls). Hmmm....

Indy has the arguably the best quarterback to ever play in the NFL.

If you are going to expect Manning play out of Clausen, not much I can say. Even Peyton took a few years to reach his potential.

The key for today is progress at the position. I think some was made.

We have a rookie QB in his first start after having gotten no meaningful PT with the starters before this week.

If you are going to expect Manning play out of Clausen, not much I can say. Even Peyton took a few years to reach his potential.

For years the question has been to find a #2 WR when the focus should have been on finding a QB that could accurately get the ball to a receiver in tight space. That's what the Aaron Rogers', Tom Brady's and Peyton Manning's of the league do. That's what makes their teams defensive nightmares. I never expected Clausen to play like an elite QB today and to be honest I don't think he will ever be as good as a Peyton Manning. The point of the thread was to state that people can complain about the other receivers till they are blue in the face but until we have a QB who can hit receivers whether they are covered or not we wont be able to have a dangerous offense....

That may all be true, but very rare. Those guys play/played with arguably two of the best Qb's ever. Future first ballot hall of famers.

Yes they are so great, in great systems they have control over it almost doesn't matter that much who you plug in... and when wr's leave those teams You hardly hear from them again. So that's a rarity that doesn't apply to most qb's and teams in the NFL.

      Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.

      Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
