Is it time to break up Panthers, trade Smith?

Smiths frustration has probably been building since the start of the year and Clausen cant throw the ball down field when he does not have the time.

Clausen doesn't throw down the field no matter what. He flushes out of the pocket too soon and looks for his checkdown as a first read instead of last one. Reminds me of David Carr alot.

And Smitty was mad this game not the first 2. What was different? Clausen didn't get him the ball. Pretty simple really.

No, trading him would be a terrible idea. We are already very weak at WR, why add to the problem?

You wouldnt get much for him, maybe a 2nd round pick. I dont think you could get a 1st, considering many WRs went for 3-7 round picks. Minn might be the primary canidate, they are in need of a stud WR.

Clausen needs smith or else he will have no weapons to throw too.

trade him for what?

We are weak at WR...so how does trading one of the leagues best wr's help us?

b/c we are developing young offensive players to win later. Hopefully win in the near future....but it is going to be in the future. Same reason KC traded Tony G. Tony of course could have helped the youth in KC ....but after Tony G gave them so much they weren't going to have him finish out his career as mainly a teacher. They let him go to a team that was more built to win sooner rather than later. We are a win later team. Why not get picks for Smitty? B/c we want him to help us win 7 games this year?

Realistically, if they traded Smith and a RB for picks. They could set themselves up very well down the road.

Clausen didnt use him much today. If we traded Smitty I wouldnt want another WR. I would want a young upcoming Defensive lineman and Safety or good draft picks. We have young WR's that could use the experience and could excel. Right now we dont need a star receiver its not about winning game at this moment it is about getting experience for the young guys. That doesnt mean I want to lose games but in the long run it would be better.

If Smith wants to leave he'll demand a trade, but seriously I don't think Smith wants to leave. Do you guys think he didn't see this coming after they cut all those players? He know whats going on with the Panthers FO, and lucky for us he likes it here enough to stay... for now.

    • Not in same league. Caldwell just hit a 10.00 on the RAS. 2nd out of 3830 from 1987 onward.  https://x.com/MathBomb/status/2027885023387349047 Yeah I mean Louis had a sub 9.00 RAS. Still very very good, no doubt. Louis is small, no 2 ways about it. He is likely a sub package lb in nickel packages or specialized WLB. Be fine ST gunner to start for sure. 6 foot flat and 220lb is pushing it for a starting LB. At 10 to 20lbs less than the other LBs he'd better be closer to the top in most timed drills. He's gonna be challenged when some of the wrs in the class can matchup bigger stronger faster, much less TE in the run game.  Yeah instinct matter and he has them, but that size is a massive red flag compared to many of the other LBS in this class.    Rodriguez is the LB that really climbed this week from a pure grit guy to great flash with athleticism people wrote off cause he was a QB at first at UVA. 18.4mph in the backpedal. Production the last 2 years were great. I'd be thrilled with him as the future mike.   Hill likely moved out of 51 and into the top 45 picks ( Ravens at 45 I can't imagine don't bite if he makes it there). Honestly Hill imo is a 1st rounder and I'd be ok with him as he fits the MLB we have missed the last few years. People would crow it's a reach but he's top 30 all-time I'm RAS for a LB at 9.9+ . Plus he was big time in big games when he was healthy. And that br a big check: meds.
    • Miller, Melo, Coby, Moose, and Bridges all on the floor at the same time must be a nightmare for defenses lol. Switch one out for Kon and still a nightmare. Coby really does bring a true 6th man value and looks like he could start if Melo was out after only a few games of getting his feet wet.
    • Well I guess he should stop playing football. This was his defining moment and chance to prove he was generational and he failed. What a waste of football life..
