Steve Smith, The Panthers, and Jerry "Dollar Tree" Richardson

I love Steve Smith. I love his passion, the way he plays the game, and his heart on the field. He has easily been the most important player to this organization the last decade. He needs to retire a Carolina Panther. That being said, as everyone on this board has said, you really feel for a guy with so much talent and skill on such an awful, putrid, offense.

The Panthers offense has been absolutely awful. The OL which was thought to send 3-4 guys to the probowl has been pathetic. No push to get the run game going, bad pass blocking, pathetic penalties. D Will and Stewart obviously are hurting tremendously from this. Yes, opposing defenses are stacking the box with 8-9 guys but this is nothing new. Clausen is being affected the most. He cant get the ball out and has no time to throw. The few times he does, he looks very sharp.

The team does have allot of young, no-name WR's but there is allot of talent being misused. Gettis, Lafelle, and Smitty have proven to be dependable receivers that can win in this league. The problem, as everyone once again knows, is that the double team comes on Steve Smith, Clausen is blitzed and as a result there is an incomplete pass, sack, or interception.

The solution to all of this is very simple. Jerry Richardson needs to open up the wallet for ONCE this season and bring in a big name WR. That alone will ease the pressure on Clausen, open up the run game, and instantly breath life into the offense.

I know this is allot of what people have been saying, but this all comes back to Jerry Richardson and his decision to throw the season before a possible lock out. As a true competitor, you never quit or throw in the towel. You do whatever it takes to win. This isnt the local pop warner league that no one cares about. THIS IS AN NFL FRANCHISE! Until Richardson realizes that this season is going no where fast, and opens his wallet, we will struggle to win 3-4 games this season.

Spend the money, get a big name WR, lift the offense, and get back on track for the playoffs before its way to late in the season!

Go Panthers!

Folks, hate to sound like a broken record, but we aren't a WR away from having a winning team. The problems are along both offensive and defensive lines.

I disagree.

The OL is going to look tremendously better once Otah get's back.

Gross, Wharton, Kalil, Otah all range from anywhere from good to elite..so it's not like we are going to get rid of them.

We just need a good guy at RG and we'll be set.

The DL, that needs a little more work if your looking at the interior, but we've got enough young guys with potential on the End's that at least one of them is going to be very good. Hardy and Brown have both already shown they might be those guys. With Johnson and Brayton proving good depth.

I think once our QB is established, your going to see a lot of perceived problems magically vanish.

I said it earlier, this team doesn't lack talent. Just experience.

.

Really? They've proven what exactly?

Jerry Richardson needs to open up the wallet for ONCE this season and bring in a big name WR.

BUT BUT...I thought you said we had winners! There is a point here I know it....there has to be, maybe I'm missing it.

    • So... what they're saying is that we went from having maybe the worst WR room in the league last year to it being the biggest strength of the roster this year... Just because we drafted Tetairoa McMillan GOAT status already, LFG!!!!!!!!
    • Joe Person @josephperson · 9m Sam Martin has a hamstring injury but is not expected to miss much time, per a league source.   Joe Person @josephperson · 19m Panthers place TE Tommy Tremble and WR Dan Chisena on the PuP list; put punter Sam Martin on the active/non-football injury list.   Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 8s Worth noting, they can probably go a few days without punting but there’s a kicking competition so someone will need to fill in as a holder.
    • Just to be completely clear. From a general average team standpoint I would concur in most circumstances. The issue is that isn’t us. If we were a vaguely competitive team that at least made the playoffs from time to time it would be one thing. We're just hoping to not be a doormat right now. So when we make no attempt to even kick the tires with anyone else and bring back Dalton on a sweetheart deal whom the last image of that we have in our heads is he and the offense getting absolutely torn to pieces by the Commanders and the very lowly Bears. Any positivity I can work up is going to be really miniscule at best. At the end of the day the best cure for being bad is the passage of time. It's not fresh in anyone's mind anymore. It's the offseason. But no matter how offended some people might be by these inconvenient truths now in just a few short months the daggers will be back out sooner or later. Anyone who's read a gameday thread here knows this.
