Why I love Fox and don't understand the hate~

The course has been run for the team Fox has put together. He's in his 9th year, which is an eternity for NFL coaches. Jake was his guy, and we went as far as we could with him. Most of the others who were to core of this team, HIS team, are gone. The same passion that the team used to display under him is not as visible any more.

Fox deserves his due for turning this team around after going 1-15 in 2001. We got to the SB in his second year. I personally think one of the best coaching jobs ever was 2004, when we were hit with so many devastating injuries, and we got to the Conference championship game in '05. 2008 was supposed to be THE year for the 'Cats, if my local press was to be believed. While we had a great year, that playoff debacle ruined it.

It's become a hallmark of the team that we're entirely too predictable, and cautious. We have no wrinkles, no razzle dazzle, no fake punts or FGs, nothing along those lines. That lack of imagination is not helping to develop our young QBs. Fox has had his run, it's time for a change. That's just natural. I wish him well, and I wish him success where ever he might end up. But it is time..

Been absent from these boards last few days. I can only bear so much..when I saw a post of 'trade Smith' I just couldn't look at anymore posts from the Huddle.

NFL network had a small thing on Fox. Basically a "he's gone and doesn't care", but one thing they mentioned that got me thinking is that he is going to be in huge demand.

So...if he is going to be in huge demand one has to ask why? If our fanbase wants him gone so much than why would any other team want him?

The reason is because he's awesome and easily in the top ten coaches in the NFL. I believe Richardson has let him be a lame duck this season for TWO reasons.

1. The Fat Cat is 'leading the way' in preparing for a lock out.

2. He has targeted another coach whom he thinks is better. Possibly the CHIN.

Here is why I love Fox:

1. No drama. You dont see him making stupid statements after each game. That you can see his disdain for the press is awesome to me. That 'fans' would want to see emotion from him will continue to boggle me. The guy on the radio that said "I want to see him crying because we suck" is JUST the kind of guy I dont understand.

2. Adjustments. Fox has continued to adjust game planning EACH game as dictated by what the other team is doing. Maybe other fans dont see it but I have. Run killing us? Next half we stop that cold. Cant get Smith open? Adjusted. I see it all the time. Perhaps fans want 'more', but Fox does a great job.

3. Knows how to win. When we don't have injuries we are a force. 12-4 couple years ago right? I mean Fox KNOWS what it takes to win. Oline, Dline, ground and pound.

What I see is people blaming Fox for things that are not his fault.

Is it his fault our Oline is banged up?

Moore played so horrible - I mean who expected that? Give him credit for yanking him.

Is it his fault Check Down Clausen is a rookie?

Is he at fault for some of the questionable play calling? We don't KNOW what/if he has talked to Davidson. Davidson's play calling game #2 was fine.

I would only criticize Fox for two things.

- He held on to Jake too long last year (and even I give him a PASS because for all the things Jake did for us.

- Because he has been with the team for so long it's possible he has gotten 'too safe'..whether its too conservative with game planning, or even talking to the players. This is the only reason I could possibly see us letting Fox go, that it is time for 'something new'...not because Fox sucks.

When this season ends, if the Fat Cat asks Fox to stay it might be Fox saying "no thanks" and I do believe it will be our loss.

He is a coach that....

1. Has NEVER won in back to back seasons

2. Refuses to adjsut his gameplan when it is not working

That is all I need to udnerstand that he is NOT a great coach.

I knew I would get some personal attacks - it's hard to be a vocal minority. I still think Fox has been a master at adjustments. Another Huddle guy said to look at the Giants game - watch it again and see how we came out and stopped the passing that Eli was killing us with. We should have adjusted again to stop the run, but its there.

What coach is better than Fox?

The CHIN: He might be - I thought he was a gutsy if cartoonish head coach.

Chuckie: Something doesn't work with him - the fall that Tampa Bay went through was rough.

Peyton(?) - I like the NO coach

Belichik - he sucked until he got to NE...seems to have been the benefactor from a GM that got him good players.

Smith - ATL coach?

Wade - Dallas?

Dungee?

I just think the list is REALLY thin to just throw Fox under the boss.
