Jimmy's pick last week=Good play by Leon Hall

I didn't notice it until just now, but the INT Jimmy threw to Leon Hall last week, was just a great play by the CB. Hall literally dove and caught it.

Hard to blame Jimmy too much for that, even if he could've been a little safer in the red zone.

You can watch the play, on the page of this link:

Clausen stared Smitty down.

True, but it was a quick inside slant.

Quick plays like that typically don't require you to look off defenders.

Like I said, it wasn't a great read inside the Red Zone, but you gotta give Hall some credit-he made a great play.

EDIT: You know what?

Forget I said anything.

Watched it again, and it wasn't as quick as I remember it.

The only thing I stand by, is that it was a great play by the defender-even if it was a poor choice by Jimmy.

It was a good job by the CB, and throws like that happen to QBs every now and then. It was not a Jake or Moore style INT. It was on target, just not perfect enough to beat off the stellar CB. Ha...I said beat off.

It wasn't the stare down as much as it was the "double-clutch" right before he threw it. I watched that play several times on my DVR and Jimmy telegraphed that throw about as badly as you can telegraph a throw.

I'm not concerned about it, he's a rookie and stuff like that is gonna happen. You can get away with it in the NCAA, but not the NFL.

he had lafell pretty open. lafell made a cut back and his defender kept going. one of those instances it would have been good to get a quick scan of the field...something i know he's quite capable of doing.

maybe he was just trying to get smitty involved. best way to get smitty involved in the game is to get other WRs involved. get that ball to the open man and you get smith a bit more open.

i agree, though. he'll get that cleaned up.

yeah the "double hitch" gave hall enough time to get in front of smith, that's a throw you have to make before smith's break & lead him a little more or don't throw it at all

the good thing is he rarely ever does that. every QB does it from time to time..even peyton and brady.

one thing that always bothered me about moore was his ball tap before every throw. i was hoping he would have gotten that fixed in the offseason, but it just didn't happen. probably a huge reason for his lack of success. if everyone can tell when you're going to throw it, it kind of screws up your chances. ad in that he started staring down receivers this year and it made it easy for the defenders.

clausen typically has such a quick release and and 95+% of the time keeps both hands on the ball right up until he throws it. thats going to be a huge asset. he could use the double clutch to his advantage, though. use it to draw off a defender and open up some other target.

I would hope that the way he has handled the situation, taking all the blame and putting the loss of the game on his shoulders, earned him some respect with his teamates and the fans!

If he would have handled this situation any differently we could have real problems with our QB and number 1 WR! I also believe thats why Smitty come around on Wednesday with a more positive tone!

Good job Jimmy, Keep your head up! We are all pulling for you (sans Pantherforlife)

    • I can say that I have defended Canales because I get that they are doing all they can to keep from looking like idiots for drafting Bryce, from the trade up to signing $150m guards to drafting XL and Brooks etc---nothing seems to work.  And Hiring Canales was part of the Bryce Young rehab program, so so he can't really decide to "move on."  That has to come from Morgan and Tepper. Personally, I think Bryce is due for an injury.  He is small, he is not thick, and he has been a LOT more healthy than most any other QB has who has endured so much pressure.  The thing that bothers me is this---Bryce really does not go through his progressions quickly.  He locks on to his presnap read and stays locked onto him for too long--he seems to fail to anticipate the WR/TE's positioning on the play before the cut--for example, if the WR is running a dig and the CB has his back to the inside of the field, he should be open for a second or less just after the cut.  He seems to wait until the cut has been made before deciding, then checking down quickly while moving in the pocket. OL:  There seems to be a lack of communication--is that on Mays?  Watch this team presnap--they seem a bit confused at times.   I can almost predict the success rate of the play by watching the center and QB before the snap.
    • Anyone else remember back in 2010 when Fox piloted having music under the in-game replays during one of Carolina's games? Not the commercial bumpers but the actual replay clips that the announcers would talk over. Pretty sure it was vs the 49ers. And it was terrible. Point being, Carolina continues being so bad that we get the networks trying things out during their games.
    • Is it bad I found this video more hilarious than pathetic? I am still laughing at that one play where half the people on the field ran into each other and Bryce still couldn't see Chuba wide open... Also laughing at Cade blocking nobody and somehow losing his cleat Man this offense is a poo show
