The pass in the dirt

Mr. Scot

I would not say this defense is worse.....not yet. Not when they set things up for the 3 wins in 4 games.

You gotta factor in what the offense is doing and how that effects things. They set the stage for some ass kickings to occur w/ some decent offensive in 2 games and then held the Saints to some low points. Offfense has been staying on the field like in 09

We had an 8th ranked defence last year. Do you belive this current defence is going to be an 8th rank defence or better?

Interesting post Mr. Scot, as always. I can definitely see what you're seeing and I happened to think the same thing.

Clausen needs to earn the respect of the few vets that we have. Smith needs to be constructive in his criticism of Clausen. In a hostile environment such as NO, expressing your frustration the way Smith had done isn't the best way to go about doing so with a rookie whose doing his best. Experience is the only teacher. Clausen is going to get better with every game.

That being said, I like Clausen's message to Smith. The two need each other to succeed, why not get together and watch film, run countless routes, and only focus on getting better every day?

but again, you have to take into account the offenses role in rankings and defensive success in general.

They might not end up a top 10 defense....but imo that will be a reflection of an offense that can't stay on the field.

Again, they put this team in position to go 3-1 at least. Offense literally has sabotged them thus far.

Smith has tension with everyone, and has had tension with everyone.

Is he a great talent, yes.

Does he have anger management issues, I would think few people could debate that.

Should he probably, at this stage in his career, not be with a rookie QB, no, he shouldn't be.

For all his greatness, he doesn't strike anyone, I don't think as a mentor during gametime.

He may have a shelf life with the Panthers too. Let's face it, it would be better for him, and probably better for this team in the long run too to get something for him.

Sad to say it; just nothing lasts forever.

The same could be same for last year. We had Delhomme turning the ball over, and horrendous special teams and we were adjusting to a new defence and still managed to be ranked 8th.

Smitty needs to take his own advice and do his job. I love the fire Smitty has but he is no leader, no one is expecting him to be a leader. T.O is hall of famer but not a leader, neither is Moss. He should stop trying to be what he isn't. I feel bad he got shitted by JR stripping the team and screwing him but he needs to be a professional.

Panthers fans showing more loyalty to a rookie QB who hasnt even won a game yet over our star wideout thats won us playoff games and kept us relevant.

Smitty gets fiery and gets in his young QB's face=he's out of line, being baby, diva-ish, not being a leader

Jimmy gets fiery and gets in his vet WRs face=he's displaying leadership', he's evolving, blah blah blah

Until our fanbase gets its priorities straight about winning football games and wanting more than to just annoint the "great hope" who hasnt even delivered yet, we will remain losers here.

No such thing as reverse racism.

You think it's smart for Smitty to get into the head of the possible future QB in his first couple of games? Smitty isn't a leader and calling out your own rookie teammate isn't a sign of leadership. People think just because you are good you are a leader and if you suck there is no way you can be a leader, yet Smitty and Delhomme are perfect examples to prove the opposite.

Fine forget about Jimmy, what about his childish acts towards the rookie WR's on the team?

Priorites are straight, we have a young team...IN ALL POSITIONS...and right now, Smitty is being a locker room cancer, like TO everywhere he has gone, rather than a leader and a mentor. Its not that hard to understand really.

Edit: He isn't as bad as TO..but he is starting to act like TO / Moss in their younger years

you guys will find anything to bitch about.we jumped pep for wanting out bc he seen this coming, now you are jumping smith bc he actuallys wants to be here and wants us to win. now hurney said we are not rebuilding and just cause you are rebuilding doesnt mean you have suck donkey balls.

way to much put into this, the rook has to earn respect before he gets it.

plus a leader would jump his rookie qb if he made mistakes like clausen made bc he expects more from him......why should he not its the nfl not f**king cyfl.

he is doing his job which is being a leader, so if telling the qb he needs to hurry, than he needs to do so.

Those WRs are scrubs and wont be on our team in 2 years. Until someone outside of Smitty steps the fug up, who cares about "mentoring". If he can get his self motivated, why cant they? Out of all the issues going wrong with this team, Steve Smith is at the bottom of the list.
