Jerry Richardson's failures are actually making me sympathetic towards Fox

I've hated John Fox's coaching style for years and have wanted him fired since 2007. However, having such a failure of an owner in charge like Fox has now is actually making me feel sympathetic towards him in the first time in years.

When Richardson fires Fox at the end of the season or decides to just let his contract expire, he WILL finally have to face the media. Every owner ever introduces the new coach. Now, even though Fox DOES deserve to be fired because of his past coaching sins, what is Richardson going to get up there and say about his decision to let Fox go this year? Say what you will about John Fox, but he's NOT a 2-14/3-13/0-16 caliber of a head coach. When we finish the season with the worst record in the league, is Richardson going to look those cameras and those reporters in the eye and make another statement akin to the "life has been sucked out of this organization" statement that everyone loves to quote from the Seifert firing? How can he do that in good conscience when it was HIS fault that we were so bad and not John Fox's?

I don't think Fox should be blamed for this season as a whole. I mean, he doesn't have the capability to overcome this, but that doesn't mean we should just forget the last 4 out of 5 years he's been coaching the team. Last year's unit was Fox's idea of a great team and we completely fell flat on our face

Yeah I get what you're feeling. I certainly am beginning to see more and more how nothing this year is like what Fox wanted but I still blame him for a lot of things in the past seasons. My biggest pet peeve is his lack of vigor and his offensive strategy.

Would love for him to stick around as our D's coach, but that's not likely going to happen. I don't think he will have a hard time finding a job though. Plenty of franchises will love to have a guy that can bring steady performance year after year and Fox can do that when given the freedom.

Right, because this thread making a point about Fox not being to blame for this season is soooo much more worthless than every other thread on this front page.

This isn't the Internet of 2005 anymore kiddos. Grow up. If you're just trying to troll, at least get new memes.

    • Bryce has been in the NFL 3 years and still looks like a very mediocre QB. Most games are nothing but mediocre plays with a highlight reel every now and then.  He is a very INCONSISTENT QB and it’s very fustrating. He does not deserve a 5th year option, even though the Panthers and all the dumb asses in the front office will give it to him.
    • I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.
    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
