ok, of the top of my head....here are the recent new head coaches.

2010

Shanahan - got his own QB

2009

Schwartz - got his own QB

Spag - got his own QB the following year

Ryan - got his own QB

McDanials - got his own QB

Haley - got his own QB

Mangini - kept QBs for 1 season and got rid of them all, got his own QB

2008

Smith - got his own QB

Harbaugh - got his own QB

coaches that kept the existing QBs on the roster.....

2010

Gailey - already got rid of 1 - if he stays another year he will bring in his own QB.

okay, now it is your turn. You tell me the new head coaches that have come in from the outside of the organziation and stayed w/ the same QB who was suppose to the future? Let's try to keep it recent b/c that is what matters in today's game.

Everyone just got owned. +1

How many of those coaches got rid of their QB who was 2nd round pick with 1 year experience?

never said the new coach would get rid of Clausen. He wouldn't do that. New HC's rarely take old QBs ride them as the future. The old HC's tend to mess them up or have them comfortable in systems that don't fit what they do. They like to start fresh. Clasuen w/ probably compete for the backup spot and next season and do what he should be doing this year.......learn.

I am not counting him out. I am just saying those who continue to claim he is the future when Fox is a lame duck coach......need to pay attention to what occurs normally. New QBs almost always brought in...either year 1 or 2 to do what the new coach is trying to do.

Clausen's best shot at being the future was for Fox to keep him on the shelf. He may still be the future regardless.....but Fox throwing him out there early is hurting him. He clearly isn't ready. I am not a Clausen hater. I am against what Fox is doing to him. The norm is unless you have a great team.....you damage young QBs throwing them out there.

Couldn't agree more. It's this irony that the Clausen lovers can't see. They keep wanting something that's going to end up hurting their own guy.

Ben Roethlisberger is Cowhers Qb, not Mike Tomlins. Pwn?

Need I list Peyton Manning?

um, I listed Manning. Turn key operation. Promote from within....everything stays the same. Even though I listed Indy, I clearly said this is a discussion of teams that hired from outside.....and were not doing turn key operations.

Ok, so Tomlin kept and rode a Superbowl winning QB. I think that makes sense. It also makes Tomlin one of the few exceptions.

I didn't say there weren't exceptions. I said most of the time. If we had a Superbowl champ at QB.....I would wager the new coach would probably adjust his team around them.

Exactly the point.

You look at that list and you can't find a single team that got rid of their QB of the future after a single season.

Every QB from every team on that list was either old or crappy.

Go ahead CRA, dig up a list of new coaches who walked into situations where the QB was either proven or an up and comer.

Amazingly, you won't find a situation where the coach coming didn't feel he had to have a previous secret connection to his own guy.

You know why teams hire new coaches?

Because their team sucks.

And I'm assuming from your previous post that you believe the QBs on those teams were top-tier QBs or promising rookies, correct?

again, never said anyone would get rid of Clausen next year. I said new coaches bring in their own QB generally.

also, we will be a crappy team - that goes and gets a new coach- that makes us the same not different.

I'm not digging up anything more. You said, it was a ridiculous comment. I proved that recent history backs up my statement. That is why I made the statement. Why don't you dig up some information backing up your assumptions. I am not saying I am right....I am saying I am using trends and examples to support my assumptions. Clausen could throw 4 TDs next week and become Joe Montana....I am just a guy guessing.

also, lots of those teams had young QBs on the roster. Ones that previous coaches had drafted. New coaches, new schemes, new ideas......they often like fresh face.

fins did it twice J.Beck and P.White:hurray:

yeah, Carolina didn't get Clausen where he was assumed to go....therefore they don't have that 1st round money invested where they couldn't move on

This thread is so lame. We are forced to keep talking about Clausen because it is a bye week and he was the last to perform badly.

Jimmy Clausen appears a lot less worried than we are about his performance. He is allowed to have a bad year. As Trent Dilfer adamantly says a rookie year does not define a quarterback. From Troy Aikman on down there have been lots of rookies with no success that have gone on to do great things.

Would anyone here have the patience for Troy Aikmen to get good? He lost every single game he started as a rookie. No one is saying that Clausen is the next Troy Aikmen, but to act like he's hopeless because he's making rookie mistakes is the sign of the simple minded fan.
