Potential Head Coaches

Well, regardless of those two, Schottenheimer is still overhyped. I have no idea why he's thought of as a head coach candidate when he's not even a good OC.

yeah, he kinda blows. All they have going for them is the running game, which is all Callahan. I have a hard time believing more people don't get that.

That, and he's got a "step-on-your-neck-til-it-f**king-bleeds" attitude that we've been missing for years now...

If we get Harbaugh, I'm changing my sig pic to one that has his pic, a Panther, and the slogan "No More Mr. Nice Guy!" :D

totally agreed. he reminds me of belicheck in that regard.

You guys think Herm Edwards is looking to get back into coaching?
certainly, but the question is whether he's good enough to hire. Only fired once but was sub 500 in NY, and .313 in KC. Sure, he had to deal with Green and Johnson both getting hurt, and they're only now recovering from that. But losing is losing.

But, if we're looking at former coaches in the booth with experience that got (possibly) a raw deal you would be better with Steve Mariucci, who was proven before the Lions, and if you're going to get Mooch, just get Gruden.

Edwards was a guy I figured as a dark horse in the DC search of 09, since he was a backfield mate of John Fox, but I really doubted he was going to be a DC and would still be surprised if he did. He fits in a way - he is a Tampa 2 guy, which adds continuity. But he'll ask for more than an unexperiened guy and hasn't proven anything with youth.

Agree on Edwards. Was never the biggest Mariucci fan, but I'd take him over someone like Cowher or Gruden.

Regarding Gruden - Source: Bucs players wanted Gruden gone

A league source tells us that the decision of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to fire coach Jon Gruden came after ownership spent a couple of weeks collecting feedback from players regarding Gruden. Per the source, a lot of the veterans were providing unflattering feedback as to their boss.

"He would say something to a player one day and the next do the total opposite," the source said. "When he would cut guys, he wasn't man enough to talk with them and guys thought that was cowardly."

Those sentiments are consistent with things receiver Michael Clayton said in the wake of the move. "It's about showing more confidence in your players," Clayton said. "He was kind of a turncoat. He'd tell you one thing and then do something else."

And you gotta love it when a coach actually looks disappointed and excited when his players make bad/big plays. And you know he would be so much more entertaining in media appearances. Fox is like a talking statue most of the team.

I've come to a decision. It will be Perry Fewell. Mark it Down!..DO IT!. we are going to hire a defensive coach. its in our blood. We love NC Products...Fewell was born in Gastonia, NC. Not to mention hes the Giants DC, like Fox was when we hired him. Full Circle. Mark it down.

Not convinced he'd get the job. An interview perhaps.

Been thinking more about some of the stuff Gantt has said about throwing out some of the old rules and this next coach needing to be a special guy. It makes me lean more toward an offensive guy, and maybe even a college guy like Harbaugh. That's not to say defensive guys have no shot at it, but I do believe this next coaching search might not completely be what we're used to.

    • Right, so basically what I said in my first post about this last night. Tepper needs to use that big wallet of his in one of the few ways it can be used in the NFL given the cap.   Give Scourton a bigger signing bonus but not a fully guaranteed deal. Everyone wins in that scenario as if Scourton is smart and hires good money people, he'll take that bigger signing bonus and use it to make more money in the end over the next 4 years than if he just had his fully guaranteed deal and a smaller signing bonus.
    • It is all confusing and layered. SB is the cash you get very soon within weeks or in simple terms, its what you get to sign the paper work. Players and agents can agree on contract but what to "wait" to sign......teams don't like that cause you can "Carlos Boozer" yourself. In order to get that ink dry, while keeping the contract the same, portion it as a bonus to "sign" and get the funds with ________ .   * But Ive seen worded contracts that split the SB or a 20% to a later date. The beans counters can fill in the details about why certain dates are better and save the team money.. Theres tricks to the trade and accounting is full of them.    Ugh another big layer, is SB can be used to manipulate cap and players. Ill try to give a example that makes enough sense. Believe it or not having a owner like Tepper is a cheat code for this. He has cash in hand, where as Mark Davis had problem making pay roll and had to move the team to Vegas....... Tepper can give you 100,000,000 SB right now and the team can spread out the cap hit. Another owner doesn't have or want to give the player 100,000,000 in cash, but offered the same guaranteed contract in roster bonuses fully guaranteed over the next few years........ Which one do you want??? Everyone wants the money now, not before another inflation waves hits in 2 years. So it does 'pay" to have a owner like tepper that's able to have real cash on hand, while it also works GREAT for cap help. Heres a good video, if you can stand coked up pat and mask look-a-like AJ
