Big Monday: Moore, Connor, Davis to IR

Just another Monday at Bank of America Stadium.

Panthers coach John Fox announced that QB Matt Moore (torn right labrum) and MLB Dan Connor (hip surgery) would be placed on injured reserve, knocking two starters out of an already thin lineup.

As to this week's game at Tampa Bay, Fox said either Jimmy Clausen or Tony Pike would be counted on to start, while the team would look to add another passer to fill the roster spot.

The crowd on the street at the moment isn't good, headlined by JaMarcus Russell, Joey Harrington, Patrick Ramsey and Brian St. Pierre (the best of the rest are locked into UFL contracts).

Fox even suggested that he might give Armanti Edwards some looks as the emergency quarterback this week.

Without Connor, the Panthers will move Jon Beason back inside to MLB, and let either Nic Harris or Jordan Senn (and perhaps even newcomer Jason Williams) compete for time at WLB.

Oh by the way, they're not going to activate WLB Thomas Davis from the physically unable to perform list, ending his attempt to come back from two torn ACLs in less than a year.

one has to wonder if fox is making as many attempts as possible to divert this season's failures away from himself. jerry handcuffs his personnel decisions, won't sign veterans, cuts veterans - and now the team's starting quarterback and two linebackers are done for the season, otah's probably next.

wow can't believe this is how matt's career may end in carolina........because of a dumbass coach who decide to sink two qb's career with the lack of playcalling and oline depth.....i remember in 08 where if gross or otah got hurt we had guys who would play there asses off that you wouldn't know the difference.....Wow

    • Right and I think we can have a conversation about that. But even with the scheme he should still be able to muster more than 1.5 sacks right? I mean DJ Johnson played in Evero's scheme too but that didn't stop us from calling him a bust. Scourton didn't seem to have trouble flashing. There can be different things true at one time.
    • I assume you are quoting my still. If so, I don't know what your argument is since mine was simply showing a play where Bryce scored a TD against the Rams in the playoffs where another poster used a similar still of Herbert's line to defend his poor performance last night. Like I said, Herbert is a better QB but Bryce wins the game last night for the Chargers. It simply is something he does better than Herbert and would play to his strengths. Someone even said earlier Chargers only win 1 or 2 games this year if Bryce was their QB which is so absurdly laughable it wasn't even worth trying to address. I mean this thread is literally called "Bryce Young is the worst QB in Panther's History" so I understand there is no objective arguments to be had here but I found that amusing.
    • I think his knee would make a good reason to switch to guard IF he returns.  Half don't.  Half of those don't last too long.  The strain on a knee (320lb man) vs speed rushers is more substantial.  So I would keep him if I could on a small contract (he will make $17.5 in 2026 fully guaranteed) and think of him as a possible guard for the post Lewis/Hunt era.  Knee injuries in big men are not invitations to invest in them.
