Trgovac Out

Whenever you have a player like Peppers want to leave a 12-4 team and multi-million dollar contract, there is something wrong. I'm not saying Peppers will stay or even should, but management wants to make sure it doesn't happen again.

You're assuming way too much. Players leave winning teams every year. Either way though, you don't change the entire defensive coaching staff to make one player happy.

That's not what's happening anyway...these coaches are leaving for better jobs, in most cases.

means nothing! no reason to celebrate!

Carolina will only bring in nobody w/ an unattractive 1 yr deal only.....Fox will push them around and have him run the exact same crap we watched this year. Trgocrap didn't want to run that crap either. The D was better when he ran it and like Darin Gantt reported...FOX took over the D and that is when things got bad anyway. Fox took it over the past two seasons.

regardless the table is set. new OC now new DC. perform or hit the road for fox.

I sure hope we don't end up missing Trgo...

I could see Hurney and Fox going to Trgo and saying, you can resign or be fired, which way do you want it. I'm sure we'll never know, but I'm not reading any "sky is falling" scenarios here...

Opinions/assumptions/"takes"/perceptions aren't worth sh*t. We know a few things.

Pep wanted out and wasn't coming back no matter what happened. Therefore, we KNOW, none of this has to do with Pep. (but what if it was, well, then we will SEE action and Pep will come back. Until then, you cannot ASSUME anything other than, Pep won't be back.)

Trgo was offered a 1 year deal. Was going to take that 1 year deal, until today when it was announced he is looking for other opportunities. So, all we know is, he is leaving to search out other options.

Other coordinators left for BETTER jobs. So, we can assume we are revamping the defense. But all we KNOW is, they left for better jobs.

Fox is the headcoach. What happens with a new DC? All we know is, there will be a new one now. What happens to the defense? Noone knows. The trick to this is... you have to wait and see.

Is this the last year of the Fox era? Who knows? What would you assume? I can't assume much, because there is no info stating this. We have to wait and see.

The purpose of my post... You all make way too many assumptions as if you had real tangible facts (as if you were inside the locker room)..

Fox is a 4-3 coach. Until a 3-4 DC comes in, what does this have to do with anything? Pep said he was gone. Why do you assume we are changing to a 3-4? lol

So we had one D Coach make a move up (Flajole), one make a lateral move (Lewis) and one (a good friend of Foxys) drop out to go back to college coaching. Our DC just rejected his contract.

I'm not seeing the "moving on to better positions" argument.

We have lost all but one coach (not counting Mills here) on that side of the ball at a very fast pace in the same offseason.

This isn't just a case of other teams raiding the pantry. We wouldn't have let so many get away if something wasn't up. Plus, only one of these guys moved upwards. Add to that .. we're not exactly a defensive powerhouse.

I really wonder what happened.

PS - Yay Trgos gone

weird thing about it, the last coach that lost so many coordinators or assistants got fired.

His name was Marty Schottenheimer. But he and AJ Smith hated each other.

Still, it's not really all that good when you're losing all your position coaches. In a span of a week and a half, Trgovac left on his own terms, Flajole left on his own terms, McCoy left on his own terms, Sunseri left on his own terms, and we almost lost Jim Skipper.

Am I the only one that thinks these guys have a certain motivation to leave after such a great season ended so horribly?

The rift between AJ Smith and Schotty was well known. Smith waited until Feb 13 to fire Marty. By that time his 2 assistants, either which would have probably kept things going better than Norv Turner found new jobs. There were a lot of other hot coaching prospects that were wrapped up by then. The Chargers got what was left over. AJ Smith is showing his ass again in his public feud with LT.

I suspect the Panther assistants know better what was going on than anyone and their moves are a clear indication of that. TRGO may have been a foregone conclusion.

Here is another conformation, for those that aren't sure it's true.

http://www.heraldonline.com/news/sports/story/1086528.html

Trgovac had been offered a two-year extension this week, and the Panthers thought they had a deal. But as was reported by The Herald this morning, Trgovac changed his mind.

“We offered him a contract, but he said he wanted to pursue other opportunities,” Hurney said of Trgovac.

Of the group of defensive coaches, Mike Gillhamer (safeties) might be the safest, given his long-standing relationship with Fox. The two worked together with the New York Giants, and Fox brought him here in 2004.

The Panthers had been steadfast in their defense of Trgovac’s work, even as he became the latest lightning-rod for criticism among the fan base. He was offered a new two-year deal this week, and was prepared to accept before his apparent reversal late Wednesday night. It’s unknown at this point if the breakdown was a result of contract negotiations or other factors.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
