Wondering about Clausen...

In either case, I don't see us keeping Moore around - he's proven he can't handle the pressure of going into a season as a starting QB in the NFL.

You interpret it that way. Others may interpret it that Moore has proved he can't win with a terrible Oline and no running game. It goes both ways you know? Not to get in another debate about it but whether anyone likes to admit it or not when he has a decent running game he is a good QB. We'll just have to wait till next off season to find out.

His junior year wasn't that good either.

People would like to ignore college but honestly that's what Clausen fans fall back on when saying he should start. If we looked objectively at his games here, he doesn't even deserve a practice squad spot. The only reason he is still here is because of his college days and his hype. Don't get it twisted.

He better step it up the rest of the year if he gets a chance or he will be looking for a new team next year, especially if Pike shows anything. Getting pulled multiple times for multiple QBs when you are supposed to be the future isn't good.

If Pike shows anything he will be back, Moore might be back, more so now with the injury, and we probably bring in a Vet/Rookie depending on the coach.

Clausen's junior year stats:

3,722 yards, 68.8% completion rate, 161.42 passer rating, 28 TD, 4 INT. Also named midseason All-American by The Sporting News.

Yeah, that's not very good at all. He was no collegiate superman like Matt Moore.

I get that you don't like Clausen personally and I also think he's playing like hot garbage right now, but why make things up? There's PLENTY of, you know, truthful things to slam the guy over.

I meant sophomore. I apologize. I've been quoted elsewhere saying his Junior year was amazing and he literally lit the college world on fire. Just a typo.

That's fair, it is a matter of intepretation and it's hard to evaluate anyone (including Clausen) on a team that has this many problems.

"Jimmy Saturday" still has yet to learn the NFL plays on Sundays, mostly.

So I'm guessing that because he was a stat monster one of his 3 college seasons that we should only hope that he can be as effective in the big show every couple or three years?

if every 2 years he puts up numbers like that, I think I can accept mediocrity occasionally. I don't want him to have "rookie year" performances every other year, but putting up 28 tds and 4 ints with 3.7k yards and nearly a 70% completion percentage? yeah, sure, I'll take that every two years. :P

edit: Not saying Clausen WILL do that. His numbers in college were good but haven't yet translated to the pros, and they may never.

let's let him play some more before we throw him under the buss and stamp him into oblivion though.

Remember he only played 4 DBs in his career that were drafted. 1 in the first round and 3 in the 7th round. That plays a factor into those numbers as well and maybe it's a contributing reason as to why he's reluctant to go down field.

This isn't college, outside of a WCO he will never put up those numbers in the NFL. NFL corners and safeties actually cover receivers. I would be happy if his passer rating this year were half that and he threw 1 TD a game instead of 1 INT and usually 0TDs.

yeah I know who he played against etc. I don't expect him to ever look that good in the pros...

and nobody could put up numbers like that with this team how it is anyway... as others have said, the offense is so bad the QB ultimately matters little.

My hope is that Fox can gel the team a bit and we can pick up in the second half as we do sometimes... especially at OL, and hopefully at QB.

It's the same people that annointed Moore saviour of our franchise after four good games last year which are basically writting Clausen off after three bad games this season. They live life in the now without the guidance of foresight or hindsight.

My biggest problem with Clausen is his low delivery. Outside of that, most of his errors are ROOKIE mistakes. If he can learn to deliver the ball higher in his mechanics, all other things can be corrected through coaching and experience.

We've been over this plenty, the mistakes he is making are not rookie mistakes, they are just mistakes. If they were rookie mistakes we'd all be okay with it. Don't disrespect the other rookies that are playing like rookies by including Clausen in that group. Other rookies are not having trouble taking snaps, handing the ball to runningbacks, etc etc etc.
