If Fox starts Pike, or he starts Clausen...

You really hate him, don't you? Won't give him a chance this weekend? I bet if Moore put up Clausen's numbers this year (oh wait, he basically did) you'd be clamoring for another shot.

What if he starts and does well? Will you make up things he does wrong?

I don't think I've unfairly judged any of his starts. I gave credit on that 44 yard pass to LaFell but I've also pointed out where he struggles. There is not one thing I've pointed out from his games that has been false or exaggerated. I do not like the kid, but he's giving me plenty of reasons for it that I don't have to make any up or root against him.

Don't make it about Moore, it's not about Moore.

I just think if the front office gives him a chance, so should you. I've done that for every QB we've had.

Why do I need to give him a chance? The FO doesn't call me for my opinions.

Like I've said in other threads, I'm from Southern California. I've seen/known this kid since he was in High School. His family is very well known for what they do for/to their kids. His family has a reputation, for better or worse, in the area. Both Moore and Clausen grew up in this area. Moore went to a more well known HS at the time, putting something like 11 straight QBs into Division 1 schools, winning like 6 straight titles, having a great coaching staff that is well respected all throughout California so he got a lot of press. Clausen, his dad, and Marc Tyler made his HS well known so he also got a lot of press. They put up a lot of the gaudy numbers but it was in a smaller, private school division so really he was the only reason the school was getting coverage.

I didn't need to wait until he got here to know what this kid is all about so me giving him a chance has already happened. I think he's always been a hype machine and benefited from being in very advantageous situations when it comes to his career so I don't believe the hype. I think more people are coming to this realization as well.

But again, as far as his performances on the field this year and my critiques of him in college, they haven't been unfair one bit. I don't spew made up stats about him I just give facts.

I'm not upset with Fox?

I'm saying Fox probably doesn't like Clausen because he sees that he could have been a player to help this year, not someone for the future.

I assume you mean our 2nd rounder could have been used to fill a need. Who do you think was drafted between our 2nd and 3nd round picks that would have made a difference this year. Golden Tate? Damian Williams? You think we should have drafted a lineman? Or a TE?

We could have drafted a WR, Olineman, DT, just about any position of need we had that would have helped sooner rather than later. With Fox in his last year he isn't too happy with taking a backup QB then a WR with the drops then a project.

To me that doesn't seem like the FO was trying to build a winner or even a contender for this year. Why would Fox be happy about that?

Here's where I disagree. It does not matter who else you would have taken in the 2nd round, it would have made no difference to our performance this year. The offense would be full of rookies and youngsters with less than 10 starts regardless of who was drafted in the 2nd round.

As for your second point (not trying to win this year) that is a different debate where I have to concede that you might be right. My opinion -

1. The Panthers thought that the O-line depth was pretty good which they were mistaken about. The Otah fiasco has hurt a lot more than we can imagine.

2. They were naive enough to expect that Fox would be able to adapt and work with rookies. They should have cut ties with him as soon as they decided to start the youth movement.

And no, I don't hate Fox. I think he is a great coach but he has some limitations.

I agree that they would still be rookies but let's look at it. One of them was drafted to be the future QB, doesn't help Fox at all right now.

The next pick was a WR who can't catch, or had a history of catching problems. Might have a high ceiling but still doesn't help Fox that much but a little yeah.

The next pick was a D1AA (FCS) QB who was going to be moved to WR. This doesn't help Fox one bit and probably won't help the team for 3 years.

So out of our first three picks, not one guy has made an impact so far. If you look around the league there are plenty of 2nd and 3rd rounders helping their teams this year.

I get that they'd still be rookies, but they'd be rookies that can play positions we need at their natural positions.

We got lucky with Gettis and somewhat with Hardy. Gettis was drafted as a project as well and no one knew he'd be this good.

So really I can't name any picks that were to directly help Fox this year. Maybe Norwood and Hardy, but Norwood rarely if ever sees the field because he's a tweener and a project and Hardy is an injury risk, but it's worked out so far.

Now wouldn't you be mad?
