Panthers starting Clausen vs Bucs

I'd like to hear your responses...

The people that have given up base it on things they have seen. The people that are high on him base it on what they HOPE he can be.

Now ask yourself who is crazy.

I agree but that could be said about most QBs. The good thing about Clausen was that he was supposed to already be able to do this. Now that he needs a lot of work he is no more special than anyone else that came out. He has average height, average arm strength, average everything really. His motion is bad and his release point is too low, two things that can't normally be changed. That "high ceiling" he was supposed to have doesn't seem so high anymore. Now nothing stands out about him so why waste time on him when other guys might have more potential?

You get what I'm saying? I'm not saying I agree but now that there is nothing special about this kid why waste the time when other guys might be more physically gifted?

Please define "Well"

Moore threw for 300+, 2 TDs and 1 Bad INT but the haters didn't eat crow, they hated on the one pick.

Clausen threw for 155 yards, <50%, and 1 gifted TD and people said it was great.

If he does well great, I'll be here with my honest recap.

You respond to my posts, but never what is in my posts. You respond with some one sentence questions that has nothing to do with the content.

You give the impression that you disagree, but can't really argue against anything I say.

I can argue, I mean the things you said about him growing up, I kind of identify with him because I experienced some of the same things aside from the football, where my HS was a public school. I like him as a person from the time I've been around Jimmy, and I believe you, like some others, don't consider how Smith doesn't seem to want to try when JC is in the game as much as when Moore is in there, plus he doesn't have an O-Line and the only game he had a semblance of a rushing attack (86 yds by DW) he posted a 91 QB rating, so really what you said of Moore having success with a running game could ring true with JC.

Could...may not though. If he doesn't excel this week, there's not much of an argument to bring him back this year. Regardless he'll get a shot next year and who knows, could outplay Luck and show we wasted the #1 pick. Might not happen, but it's not impossible. I'd like to see him not turn it over this week and lead 1-2 touchdown drives. Given our injuries it's unreasonable to expect him to lead us to a win but some improvement on his part is all I'm looking for.

At this point, it's clear that he needs allot of work (and more talent around him) to be a successful NFL QB... he's more of a development prospect than most people thought.

The expectation was that he would be able to step right in and run this offense, which clearly isn't the case, but that doesn't mean he can't do it given enough time, coaching and surrounding talent.

Bottom line, I think it's too early to totally give up on him.

That was the thought but it seems that nobody can run this offense! It's hard to judge him honestly with how bad everyone else is sucking it up. I mean the play calling sucks to no end so how can you judge any of our QB's on what they have to try to execute. It's a sad situation all around. I would hate to be the coach that's going to have to evaluate these guys based on this seasons body of work.

Would love to be in the film room though just to hear the comments.

As long as you know you are basing it on liking the kid personally and not on the field. You argued that he COULD do this or COULD do that. I just think it's unfair that the Clausen supporters hate the people who have "given up" on him because they HOPE he COULD do something when the people who have given up base it on actual performance.

Just because you like him or someone else thinks he could be good, doesn't mean everyone else has to buy into it you know? You are more than welcome to think that but when we provide reasons why we have given up and you guys counter it with "But he COULD be good sometime" then call us crazy it's kinda funny.

And not to make this a comparison between Moore and Jimmy, when Moore has a rushing game, he was the second best QB in the NFL, just saying.

I know, just using facts...80+ rushing yards from a RB, 91 QB rating.

You said we should give up on someone for someone else who COULD do better. This whole game is based on hypothetical situations, not just what I say.

No what I was saying was since we now know that his ceiling, NFL readiness, blah blah blah was a lie, coupled with his low release point and long delivery, why would we put 2-3 years of work into him?

Other guys that are taller, bigger, have better arms, better motions, etc would have a higher ceiling with the same 2-3 years of work is all I'm saying. If we are going to put the 2-3 years into someone, why not do it with someone who is more physically gifted. The good thing about Clausen was that wasn't supposed to be needed, but now it is so it changes things.

Would you rather have a QB with a 91 rating or would you rather have one with a 105+ rating (on average) and be the second best QB in the league when they get a solid running game?

(I in no way think Moore is the second best QB in the league but those were the facts, just shows how terrible a stat QB rating is.)

I want a QB who can rate above 75 most games. Sadly we haven't yet found that.

I was never one of those who thought he was "NFL ready" by his game tapes. I felt he was more "NFL ready" because we had an awesome running game and a good line. SO much for those ideas as well. I knew he'd need some work and some coaching. He hasn't gotten much of either.

Couldn't agree more on the bold.

Other stuff, meh. :D

I guess to the argument of the 75 rating we need a running game that can get around 80 yards most games then right?

I don't see many people giving up on clausen. I know I haven't, but....his play certainly makes me wish moore wasn't hurt.

To be honest with ya, pike moved the ball better than clausen did. Spin that however you want.

We also don't have any good options now. I can only hope that clausen will be over his fumbling, and will trust in our receivers enough to push the ball down field.

Not giving up on anybody, but it's difficult to get excited over a player who has shown as little as he has.
