Not gonna lie, the future looks bleak

Key word being "almost". Jake played out of his mind in that game too.

The Bucs won with a journeyman 8 years ago, before the NFL changed the way they call illegal contact on the defense.

I'm not saying we're definitely going to be perennial bottom dwellers, but it's tough to argue that the rest of the division isn't better positioned than we are at the QB position right now. That was the primary point I was trying to make.

Yeah I agree getting the next Peyton Manning would be nice, but lets be honest, the Bucs got lucky with Freeman who was a physical specimen but was never really a great all around qb, he has matured a lot and has really worked to get to where he is. The saints lucked up Brees shoulder didn't explode. And well quite frankly the Falcons made a good decision with Ryan who I also thought was going to be good...

It would be nice if we get the first pick, and Andrew Luck turns out to be awesome, but for some reason I feel like if we draft him he will suck, or if we pass on him he will be awesome....its just my luck with sports

I agree and after tonight the Falcons could be this years Saints. Just a sad reality.

Not really that sad...the Saints and Falcons have been doormats for many, many years....it's good to see our division finally being talked about...except for us...this division is up for grabs playoff-wise.

We have to draft one.

The Saints lucked out and signed one of current best QBs in football. So that means in order for us to do the same, Brady, Manning, Rivers, Brees, etc will have to be a FA next season and come here. Ain't happening. So that leaves the Draft. Who out there is as good as Ryan? Luck and Locker seem to be. There may be another out there as well. So we'd have to not trade down to get two of them for sure. Now, can we get a pure talent like Freeman? Yep, but that's quite the gamble. Our scouts are hopefully working overtime to find out...and if indeed Clausen and Pike have no future and Moore isn't resigned, they better come through. And I personally don't want to see any of the three QBs we have here ever again. Draft Luck or Locker, sign a decent FA to start 2011 and mentor the rook until he's ready to take over. I feel that is our only option to build this team into anything.

I don't like using a FA next season or even in 2012 then drafting a rookie in 2012 or 2013. Let's get this damn thing rolling NOW.

Knew every other team in our division had a damn good QB going into the season and it was confirmed after watching Freeman have his way with our defense early in the season. Hopefully Clausen shows flashes the rest of the year and turns the corner next year ala Freeman.

This post is a rip off of one i posted during the atl game see:

Our Franchise QB!

The truth is the Panthers have never had a franchise QB!

We all thought it would be Kerry Collins, but we all know how that worked out for multiple reasons.

By the time Steve Beuerlein got here he was a solid qb, but still in the twilight of his career.

And Jake Delhomme was the true diamond in the rough, the ultimate underdog story, the kind of stuff sports movies are made out of and he came within seconds of reaching an unprecedented accomplishment of becoming a superbowl winning QB and he was a great person, but all that being said he wasn't a franchise guy!

The Panthers need some one who is a potential pro bowler every year, a guy worth 5 wins just by him self. Atlanta has this with Matt Ryan something they never dreamed of after the Vick fiasco. New Orleans has this in Drew Brees. And the bucs may have this with Josh Freeman. But at this point we do not. He may be on this roster, but so far i think it is fair to say it doesn't look promising. The good news is we have 8 games to potentially find this out. The truth is the Panthers have really only looked for a true franchise guys on 2 occasions Collins in the expansion draft, and the Clausen this year.

If the guy isn't on the roster the Panthers will have a good shot to find their guy in the draft next year in the form of Andrew Luck, Ryan Mallett, or another Jake, Jake Locker. And the odds are no matter what the QB situation is now when a new coach comes in he will want to have his own guy under center, its just the way it usually works in the NFL.

Until we find our guy at QB we as fans can forget about ever winning a division, much less a world championship in today's NFL. Yeah we may have a good year once every four years, but we will never be the winning program that Jerry Richardson truly wants here. For now we can only hope, wait, and see if we will find our guy!

Thanks as always Panther Nation stay strong!

Whah....Whah....Whah.

Someone stole my idea.

You sound like a whiney little bitch.

Chances are that we trade the 1st pick to get more picks, I honestly dont see JR paying 55 million to Andrew Luck. 1st overall for 2 1st's rounders and a 2nd? Wouldnt be suprised if they gut the roster again too especially with a new coach/gm coming in. It's going to be a few years until we're contenders, the only way we'll be good next year is if Clausen pans out and starts playing ball. As bad as our running game is we should start running the west coast offense, Jimmy would do much better

Until the O-line is fixed u mays well put Jose Feliciano under center... its tough to evaluate what we already have with that going on.... wonder how good Brees and Ryan would look running for their lives.

There are two camps, Do you want your QB to carry your team or do you want your offensive philosophy to carry your QB, seen both scenarios win the superbowl. What I dont want is to overpay or mortgage our draft picks.... Lets wait and see what 'Coach' wants to do, it will be his decision.

I think we'll be back to our former glory and competitiveness, its just gonna take some time.
