Rumor Only - But Something worth Talking About

First off, I am lurking on the boards everyday but rarely post anything. After searching the forums on this topic I thought this would be a good time to start a new post.

I heard this rumor from a guy a work in regards to Cowher coming to coach the Panthers next year (we hear this rumor every day), but also bringing Phillip Rivers with him. He claimed Rivers contract is running out in San Diego and Cowher is going to bring him back to his home state of NC.

I am sure this is 99.9% untrue but something to think about.

Rivers signed a contract in August 2009:

8/24/2009: Signed a seven-year, $98.25 million contract. The deal contains $38.15 million guaranteed, including a $19.55 million signing bonus and Rivers' 2009-2010 base salaries. $6 million of Rivers' 2011 salary is guaranteed for injury, but not skill or performance.

2010: $6.6 million (+ $6 million option bonus)

2011: $8.4 million

2012: $10.2 million

2013: $12 million

2014: $13.8 million

2015: $15.75 million

2016: Free Agent

Looking at this contract, I can honestly say (new CBA notwithstanding) that Philip Rivers isn't going anywhere until after the 2012 season, at least. Down the road this deal will get restructured to spread out the money currently due from 2013 - 2015 to keep him in San Diego.

A) Rivers is from Alabama

B) To get him we would have to give San Diego something close to this : 1st round pick, 3rd round pick, 4th round pick, Jimmy Clausen, DeAngelo Williams, Jordan Gross, Steve Smith, Jon Beason

Pretty simply, aint gonna happen

I'd do that minus Beason

    • He’s also 21 years old. I don’t know why fiz is so eager to label him a bust
    • It’s wild to me that so many of you guys are threatened by the idea of an opposing team fan who is polite in 2025. He’s been posting here on and off for years, usually when our teams play each other which hasn’t been for a while. I’d maybe understand this treatment if it was a falcons or saints fan, but packers fans in general are one of the nicer fan bases as long as you aren’t another NFC north team (especially the bears).
    • Some players excel on the big stage, while others freeze and succumb to the pressure. I’m not convinced Cam took a dive. I think he didn’t handle the stage very well. The pressure got to him and he folded. He wouldn’t be the first quarterback or player to struggle in a Super Bowl. Two HOF examples - John Elway and Jim Kelly. The 2002 MVP, Rich Gannon, threw 5 interceptions against the Bucs. Poor performances happen.  Unless of course you believe all these players threw the games they played in, but if that occurred, surely someone by now would have admitted taking a dive? 🤷‍♂️
