2011 Free agency and JR

With things not looking up for the rest of the season a lot of us are looking forward to the draft, hiring of a new coach, and the FA period in order to get out team back on track.

The thing I am starting to worry about is the ability to sign our own Free agents and the ability to attract FA's to Carolina.

I think there is a possibility to be backlash against JR for the handling of the team this year... players want to win and may not agree with JR's philosophy this year (bettering his position for the potential lockout) and may decide to go play elsewhere, or they might not be willing to give any "home team" discounts.

I'm not sure but I think Williams, Kalil, Davis, and Marshall are going to be our biggest FA's going into next year.

I think Kalil would be the #1 priority followed closely by Williams and Davis. I just hope JR does not cause us more backlash from his pro-owner stance this year.

Don't see a backlash.

Once there is a CBA in place along with an attractive coaching staff.

Andrew Luck coudn't hurt either.

Cool, I hope so. Just seemed like a lot of owners are still paying players this year, while JR has made it obvious he's all about setting up for the owners in the potential upcoming lockout. With players money being in jeopardy I was thinking that could have backlash in the locker room. I hope I'm wrong and everyone else is right.

    • Mel Kiper said he would retire if Jimmy Clausen wasn't a successful NFL starter too. Just because the experts make a claim doesnt mean it's true either.  Bryce may be a serviceable QB for someone. Serviceable QBs don't bring you a perennial winner or lead you to the playoffs over and over. Serviceable QBs also dont get 50m plus per year deals which is what a Bryce extension would look like.  The stats show he hasn't been even a serviceable QB in the 3 years he's been here. The eye test shows he hasn't put together 2 franchise QB salary games back to back in 3 years.  Complain all you want about people being negative, but people pointing out that Bryce is held to a different standard than anyone else on the team isn't complaining. It's stating the obvious.
    • We have big bodied WRs and 3 TEs who all have potential and each bring something different to the table. I never saw the need to go out there and try and find a new starting TE.  While it's nice to have a guy like McBride, Bowers, etc, I think a team's better use of the cap is by having TEs on rookie contracts or cheap vets, not having to pay elite TE money.
    • He had the award until like the last 8 games. He sucked ass and flagg had 3 40 point games
