Mike Goodson equals fools gold

Neither Stew or DWill got the number of carries Goodson is enjoying as a starter this year. Give Dwill 20 plus carries a game and he would shine. Goodson was fortunate as well both his fumbles today were recovered or we might have lost by 51-13.

I dont want to see DWill leave town.

We'll never get in return what Hurney gave up for Stewart, we need to ride that horse. (But if someone offered a 2nd....)

Goodson is good depth.

Keep 'em all.

Goodson is not fools gold but he isn't Barry Sanders. He is a very solid backup and we should consider ourselves lucky to have depth at one position. Sutton is no slouch either. I forsee the Panthers parting ways with either Stewart or Williams, just because of the quality they have in Goody and Sutton.

I would rather have Sutton. He's a solid special teams player as well as 3rd back.

Sutton is too injury prone. I don't want to be in a position of depending on him.

I wouldn't call Goodson "fool's gold" but I don't think he's better than a healthy Williams or Stewart. I'd still prefer him as the third back / kick returner.

I don't get the Foster comparisons. Foster was more balanced in terms of speed/power. Goodson is probably the fastest back we've had here in a while. The line is still playing like crap it's just that Goodson is fast enough to make up for it. He's also running much more decisively than JStew.

Like Mr. Scot said, normally Goodson is best suited for backing up DWill/JStew and returning kicks. The guy just has too many issues with ball security to be an every down back, and that's why he reminds me of Foster, not because of his running style. Is the guy fast, hell yeah he's fast, but he just isn't able to break through the second and third levels of the defense very often and his statistics prove that. So far he's got 270 yds(long of 45 yds) on 61 carries with 0 TD's and 3 fumbles. Not bad when you consider how terrible our OLine and playcalling have been this year, but damn sure not good enough either.

    • Bryce and Dave will determine how many games this team wins next year. It’s not on the WRs. The RBs. LBs. This is about 2 things: 1. Can Bryce continue to come up big in the few key downs that decide most games?  2. Can Canales evolve his play calling to counter punch like the big boys do. Half time adjustments.  teams that score 30+ points on the regular win more games than not. That’s on Bryce and Dave. The offense is top 10 at every position group, save for TE and QB. A baller TE is gravy but not crucial when the receivers are dudes.  The defense is the defense. It’ll be better this season, hopefully by a large margin, but Dave/Bryce is really where it’s at.
    • Normally I'd wholeheartedly agree with this. But I feel like teams figured out this offense after the Raiders game. Bryce was so inept the first 2 games that we couldn't really even run the offense. Dalton's first game showed what we had. But after that game, coverages got a lot tighter and windows were smaller. When Bryce came back in, his ability to extend plays made a big difference. It's really difficult to stop a QB that can beat/escape 1on1 tacklers. It puts a lot of pressure on the defense when you blitz. And he was completing throws in tight coverage with anticipation. Point being Bryce wasn't throwing to wide open receivers that were schemed open by the offense. Occasionally yes. But not often.
    • With the additions we've made to our roster combined with the state of the division and the conference as a whole there is no excuse for this team not to make a legitimate push for 8-9 wins. Anything less is honestly inexcusable. There will be no more free passes for being a doormat in this iteration of the league where even mediocre teams are competing for playoff spots.
