One or Two Years Away

from something special. JR being an absolute moron this year has one bright spot and one bright spot only, and that is a chance to draft the best QB prospect since Peyton Manning. Andrew Luck is going to enter this league and be in the same class as Manning and Brady in a few years, he is that special. We then bring in his head coach who he is comfortable with and we are in business.

We then need to trade D-Will for a second round pick hopefully and draft some D and O-line depth. With Harbaugh on the sideline we have some players who can truly make this a speacial team.

QB: Luck

RB: Stewart/Goodson

FB: Fiammetta

WR: Smith

WR: LaFell/Gettis

TE: Rosario-love this guy hopefully we bring him in and our new coach utilizes him

LT: Gross

LG: Wharton

C: Kalil

RG:

RT: Otah

DE: Johnson

DT:

DT:

DE: Brayton/Hardy/Brown

WLB: Davis

MLB: Beason

SLB: Anderson

CB: Gamble

SS:

FS: Martin

CB:

We need to sign a DT and RG to fill in and I think we can get away with Landri starting for one more year. Then after Luck look to draft a CB and a DT. Also Godfrey wouldnt be terrible for another year. I like what this team can be.

i wouldn't count on anyone really coming in here and turning us into a serious playoff calibre team in one year, though it can be done and has been done recently by teams who were every bit as or more screwed up than this team.

a rebuild might mean another top 10 pick the following year, but that's ok as long as there is growth.

Stewart has had no burst this year and is a big injury risk.

Goodson would ensure Luck would go on the IR.

I'm kinda thinking we need Williams, but I hate being the ones to sign a RB's second contract.

it would be worth it....at least until the young QB gets established in the offense.

in no way am i a stewart "nut rider". We need the money to re-sign Kalil, Davis, Beason, Johnson, Rosario, and Williams. Plus we have a HUGE hole at both DT spots and no second round pick so we would definitly have to sign a DT. We are also thin at CB and O-line so we need cap to bring in depth. If we can trade Williams while we have to capable backs in Goodson and Stewart I dont understand why not do it while we can keep a core of young players.

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
