Poll: Should Panthers take Luck in NFL draft?

Exactly, which is why Luck will be the pick if he comes out. No coach is going to want to pass on this guy. The pick ultimately comes down to Hurney & J.R. but I think they're both smart enough to know what this guy could do to our franchise if he pans out.

Assuming Luck doesn't opt to stay in school due to the lockout.

I am not saying Clausen is the man, but he has improved. He is a mid-second round QB people are holding to top 15 standards. Luck will suck unless you fix the OL and possibly bring in a true #1 WR (+ Gettis, Lafell, Smith). So, are you putting the cart before the horse(s)? So, I ask myself if it is fair to blame Clausen when almost any young QB would struggle here.

Of course, we should be well below the cap, and can fix these problems in free agency.

I think we will address these issues as well. Bring in a solid starting right guard and some veteran OL depth to stabilize the line and get a solid veteran WR to help Smith out and mentor the young guys.

Do you really think one player will make a poot? With the same tired ol coaching stall, and same out dated game plans and play book?
yes and we won't have the same ol' tired coaching (unless the hire is grimm or some lame ol' coach like that). new game plans and playbook.

With all due respect to a fellow member who also has a low post count which on this board equals our opinions mean exactly poo..I disagree 100%

You ask why wouldn't he not want to come here...but i have to ask...what do we have to offer him? Why would he want to come here? other than the fact he might be forced to come here..if you were the hot QB of the draft...would you be excited to come to a team that.....

1. A run-first team which means pretty much no great stats for him

2. Likely a new coaching staff that may, or may not be to his liking/skill set

3. Very few reliable receivers to throw to

4. Based on this year and the fact that we have had 2 starting QB out with concussions...obviously cant protect the QB

5. No veteran QB to apprentice under/learn from.... like the last hot QB from the draft Tibow (who notably has been sitting on the bench all season which = no immediate impact for all of the Luck nut lickers out there)

6. A playbook that reads like a middle school football team in regards to complexity

Frankly I hope (like always) we win a few more games so folks will stop drooling on Luck as if he will be the savior of this franchise.

Charlotte is a great city to live in? Maybe in comparison to Phoenix you may be right but compared to Cinci or Buffolo...well..Charlotte might be cool if he likes hanging out with fat ass rednecks and ditsy ass country girls,or other hot women who are transplants from other areas.......however considering he is from the west coast..I highly doubt Charlotte is at the top of his list of places he would like to live (regardless of the team he plays for)

QUOTE=Second City Panther;2827995]Why would he not want to come here? Or perhaps I should rephrase: why would he want to go to Buffalo or Arizona or the Bengals any more than here? No team in position to take him will be very good and Charlotte is a great city to live in, a nice stadium, well respected owner, and besides, only Elway & Eli Manning have ever tried that stunt. Most rookies are happy enough being drafted into the NFL and to be paid like they are and don't act like jackasses about it.

I think our next coach will factor into it as well. If we go with an offensive guy like Schottenheimer Luck will likely feel more comfortable than with a defensive coach. I think it seals the deal if we hire Harbaugh, too, though that's looking more and more unlikely every day. Hell, if I were Jerry I'd hire him just to entice Luck to come out early.

This is true but yet we are stacked to the grill with RB talent...yet our passing talent...whether that be QB or WR is still yet unproven.

Any new coach that comes in must surely realize this and scheme to the strength for what he inherits..which as of next year will be a team with solid depth at RB with perhaps yet another rookie QB and some 2nd year receivers.

We are a run first team under Fox. Fox is gone. We have no clue what we will be doing on offense or defense in the future.

again, new coach would address the vet QB issue.

new coach, new playbook.

There are much worse things for a young QB than a strong running game. And you also have to realize that any team picking at the top of the draft is going to have issues like the ones you described. You have to compare us to the other teams. Compared to Buffalo our OL is great; at least we have talent there, even if it's under-performed and injured right now. Same goes for Arizona and the Bengals.

Now, I'm sure he'd prefer to go to the Vikings, but they won't sniff Luck this year or next without trading some major picks to move up, which is just as likely to not happen this year as next.

Luck is going #1 overall. If we have the #1 pick, we take him. End of story. If you don't understand that, the oh well. Talk to ANY person that covers the NFL for a living, or works w/ in or around it, you will hear the exact same thing. I don't understand why thats so hard to grasp.

    • Why? AI already taking jobs, running up power bills, drinking all the water and just bad for the environment but hey lest try to shoehorn another useless way to use it.
    • I'm going rogue in R1 but there's so much confusion around us. Last year, we were going Walker or Williams and caught folks off guard with TMac. The previous year we LOVED Legette and it was no surprise when his name was called. This year, I think we nail three areas that weren't totally addressed in FA.  R1 - Kayden McDonald Full disclosure, I want Thienemann here, but think he goes before 19. Some might see an "overdraft" but McDonald unlocks so many people on our D. Having a DT the caliber of McDonald let's Lloyd, Wallace and the newly drafted Hill flood the offensive backfield. Also opens up Moehrig and our EDGES to eat. Lastly, it also removes all the pressure on DB to be the primary facilitator in the trenches and A'Shawn will be missed. I don't care about Turk. McDonald is the only true DT worth of a R1 grade and Morgan seals up our trenches here w/ a kid from a blue blood school. R2 - Anthony Hill Jr *trade up*  I love JRod, but think a smart team takes him at the end of R1 (Seattle, NE w/ two d-minded coaches). Hill, Jr is a beast and lost in the shuffle with all the Styles/Allen/Rodriguez hype. He and Lloyd with DB and McDonald up front and flanked by Scourton/Phillips is nasty.  R3 - Hecht/Lew/Center du jour Let's stop the madness with ignoring this position in the draft. We need one and should start normalizing the capital invested in our OL with someone on a draft contract. He won't need to start day 1, but I think the right selection will push for starter reps. R4 - Bud Clark Not sure if he's here in R4 where we pick, but would fit the "type" of FS/roamer that we need opposite Moehrig and Ransom. Allows us to run 3-safety looks and really keep teams guessing with personnel packages. R5 - Kendrick Law The kind of WR we need. IDK if he's any different than Horn, Jr or Metchie but Law could be a dart throw that brings a deep threat to our WR corps I'm guessing one of the R5 picks is used to move up in R2 along with a '27 day 3 pick.   Post-draft, I sign Njoku to bring in a vet at TE. I'm also keeping my eyes open for pre-week 1 team cuts for a young CB that we could bring in to maybe plan for Mike Jack's departure next year. Flame away.... I know the McDonald pick will not make people happy.
