Smith wanted Clausen to apologize to the guys in the huddle

How often do ANY WRs come up with that kind of ball. It'd be one thing if it was just behind him, but it was below his waist as well. He was also running towards 2 defenders waiting for him IIRC. Most guys trying aren't going to catch that.

If I was Smitty I would've batted that poo down anyway.

A NFL receiver like him still should've caught it. It hit him right in the palms of his hands. No excuses. It hit him right in his hands.

You are using that saying incorrectly. Hitting him in his hands is used when it hits the receiver in stride and in his hands when he is trying to catch a normal pass.

What happened there was that the pass was so bad it was incredible that Smith even got his hands on the ball. Most receivers wouldn't even be able to do that with that pass.

Edit:

The pick that Rodgers threw today hit Jennings "in the hands." You can see the difference in those to plays and see what one was actually catchable and what one wasn't.

Smith dropped a ball today that hit him right in his hands. Yes the ball was thrown behind him, but Smith should've still been able to catch it. We all know Clausen has been terrible and probably will only be a backup at best after this season, but Smith has no room to talk after dropping and fumbling balls this season.

Smith has all the room in the world to talk, he IS this franchise, has been for forever.

And no anyone with half a clue would know that pass was un-catchable, regardless of if it hit his fingertips.

Is anyone else tired of the same old threads?

Clausen sucks. The O-Line sucks. The playcalling sucks.

None of that is going to change. Why are we still trying to make a point about anything going on out on the field?

As long as there are Clausen apologists, us realists will make and post in these threads.

So then i guess Smith is no longer considered one of the top receivers in the league anymore. A top 5 or 10 receiver, like many of us on here thought of him as before, would've made that catch. I guess now we see him as just an average receiver that can't make the catches that a top, or even above average, receiver should make anymore.

There's no excuse to drop a ball that hits you right in the hands. Yes the ball was thrown behind, but you're just making a bigger exageration than it was to further support your point. Smith didn't have to make an acrobatic or diving catch. He just turned his arms around and the ball hit him in his palms and he dropped it. Period.

It doesn't matter who you are, no one makes every catch.

Okay, you're right... Desean Jackson caught a ball in a similar situation earlier this year against Atlanta, and he turned out alright on that play.

    • There is a Grand Canyon-sized chasm between your opinion and the opinions of most former player hockey guys who do this for a living.
    • I can only imagine the **** eating grins on the committee right now. "Oh, Bama didn't deserve it? Oh, Miami didn't deserve it? Suck it, haters!" lol
    • To say that, is gaslighting, because it isn’t true. I mean, maybe one or two people do that but it isn’t the predominant behavior. Even Frank has given him credit. I think particularly the Rams game. A couple of glowing posts.   I know I have. Gotta be honest about it because if you aren’t it undermines what else you say.  But the degree of how far I go with credit, in terms of it being a projection of future performance? Not very far. Acknowledge it, but require more of it. There is a lot of bad play to offset.    I tried to remain passive while the last 9 games (post ankle injury) played out. It is just really hard when the lows won’t go away. I failed. As high as a couple of those highs were, there isn’t enough.    I know it is premature to just say I want to move on, made my decision after 6 of those games ended up pretty much really good or not good enough, but I have had enough of being patient and letting him show the reality either way.  So in my view, he Could still validate himself to a decent degree if he smokes the last three starts. But also in my view I don’t expect to see it. Maybe one more high quality start, would be my expectation. So yes he could still somehow justify having the job next year. If that happened I still wouldn’t have much faith given the last three years and all that has transpired. Again, there is a lot of bad play to offset.
