Wanting the team to lose is actually a great attitude

I'm not going to do it but I don't question the fandom of anybody anymore about it. If you think they aren't fans then what do you think of JR?

JR made decisions that were detrimental to the ability of the football team, but beneficial for the long term.

Wanting to lose out in order to get a possible long term solution at QB is therefore a fine attitude to take.

It's not like the fans taking this attitude will affect the players either unless you believe in voodoo mindwaves and all that.

There is one scenario that could cause this to asplode.

Andrew Luck doesn't declare so the #1 pick is seen more as an inconvenience than a blessing. Then you have a 1-15 team with no late season wins to build upon. Blech.

I think the whole "you aren't a true fan if you root for them to lose" thing is a misconception of a few people. Nobody is rooting for them to lose. But most everyone understands that it will help the team more, if we continue to lose.

Saying you're a better fan, because you'd rather see us win a few more games (which does nothing in return...at all) than get the number one pick (to use or trade for more picks), is simply obtuse. On the other side of the coin, I think maybe it's even just one or two posters that have come out and said they're rooting for a loss, which in turn let's the people I speak of run with it and act like it's a rampant thing here. It's not.

We all love our Panthers. But we should all understand what is best. I'd go as far as to say, if you're rooting for wins, you're not as smart of a fan as the rest. You may have more spirit, but you don't have a clue. The rest just watch the game. If we win, we win. If we lose, we lose. If great things happen, we cheer. If things go poorly, we're used to it. But we know what's best for this team and we know what needs to happen.

But ROOTING for a loss? That's where things are getting blown out of proportion.

Yeah, I want a great first pick. But as we all know, one player does not a team make. It takes time. Yes, this year has been unbearable. If we ever get the killer instinct again, that might be the difference. Just my worthless opinion...nothing else.

We saw what the coaching change in Dallas did. Who knows?

Hadn't thought of it that way, but actually a fairly valid point.

I still have trouble with the notion of wanting the team to lose though :(

Ill take it a step further for arguments sake. If you were out of the playoffs, and you knew the number one player would make your team a much better team then any other

1st round pick, why would it be bad to root for your team to lose? Not quit or not progress, but simply lose.

In that senario, your reasoning would be under you want what's best for the team.

If Luck isn't there, trade the pick. Then you still get a 1st, and most likely a 2nd...which we don't have. We need some serious work on this team. Having more picks, or the best pick, can only be beneficial. Having a pick in the 4-6 range, and no 2nd Rounder, is not as beneficial. Swallow your "pride" and look at the big picture. Supposedly that's what JR did this year.

the big picture is the team needs more than one player.

dt is just as desperately needed as qb.

the fact is...more picks is a bigger priority than the number 1 overall.

Yep. But we have to get the #1 pick in order to trade it. It can work wonders no matter how you slice it.

You could make the argument that theres a chance you wouldnt be able to.

From my memory the number one pick has only been traded twice this past decade. And one of them was because of the whole Eli Manning vs SD ordeal.

These days, a franchise QB is becoming more and more of a necessity than a luxury.
agreed, though i would also add that it doesn't mean that we need to ditch the run game or that it has become obsolete. while the old "run the ball, stop the run" philosophy has become archaic, teams that do well have both a solid passing game and run game. they have found balance. the run game is fine and will only be made better by us bringing in a better QB. all elements of the game will improve with that upgrade.

the way it's shaping up, the NFCS is incredibly underrated and could very well be the dominant division in the NFC for years. it isn't too far from being better than the NFCE and according to the standings, is better. the only thing that is going to be holding it back is the panthers until they can catch up in the QB department.

    • Not sure who said it first, but Tepper is the correct answer. Still, I'm gonna go with Kasay keeping it inbounds. If, you subscribe to the butterfly effect version of time travel consequences.... When we win SBXXXVIII everybody's lives change: Moose never breaks his leg, We win it all again in 05. Tommy Jone is unknown and Peppers stays home, Champs once more 2008. No artificial pig heart turning JR into a creepy weirdo, no lockout, no Clausen. Fox and Jake ride off into the sunset on their own terms. No 2-14, no #1 pick. But, no laptop, no Blinn, 3 years behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, we still get Cam. JR let's him grow his locs like he always wanted, Smitty sees Cam in a new light. Dreads swinging, (and Smitty with his 3 Lombardis behind him) Cam is old enough to get those calls. No Manning narrative, Cotchery TD, PI against Talib on Philly Brown, 10,000 RTP calls and Kony Ealy SB50 MVP. No Jeans Fridays, no Tepper. KB doesn't slip on his own meatsweat mid-route in SD, Cam becomes the 1st QB to win 10 straight SBs. Retiring after being elected 47th president of the US of A, Cam ushers in the Permanent Proletarian Revolution across the globe, Xi Jinping bows in awe. "ẄøŘƙƐṛ§ őF ŧĤə ŵØRłð, ŮŊÏŦƐ!!!"
    • Yeah your right the owner was copping hand shandies while all this was going down
    • I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
