CHARLOTTE, NC - Next April will mark thirteen years since Peyton Manning was headed into the NFL Draft. Thirteen isn't a lucky number, and the Carolina Panthers, if legend holds true, weren't so lucky back in 1998.

"Peyton wanted to be the first pick in the draft," Archie Manning said Wednesday in a radio interview with a Charlotte-based sports radio station, WFNZ-AM, 610 The Fan.

The elder Manning confirmed there were serious talks about the Carolina Panthers putting together a package and dealing up for the first pick to select Peyton.

that could have changed the franchise's history in such a great way. instead we've had to deal with scrubs and a fanbase that makes excuses for them.

we have a chance to draft someone incredible who can change the face of the franchise in a big positive way for years much like peyton would have (and did in indy). yet, many fans are content with mediocre at best options at QB and want to trade that pick away. oh...take a look at what genius moves were made by the cards when they traded out of the #2 spot. mediocre franchises will remain mediocre franchises regardless of how many picks they get. like it or not, an elite QB can make this team dominant. look at the colts and the saints and what they have to work with.

Richardson tried to get the league to take the #1 pick from the Colts and award it to the Panthers as compensation for GM Bill Polian jumping ship while still under contract.

After reviewing the situation, the league agreed compensation was due and decided to transfer the first pick...in the third round.

We used it to take Chuck Wiley :(

Scot, you forget the deal that Polian was trying to put together with the Colts before he jumped ship. He was hoping to get McCormack's job and be President as well as GM. In the pricess he was trying to trade the house for the right to draft Manning. Then the job went to Mark Richardson, and Polian became the President and GM of the Colts.

Ah, memories... :)

    • I believe Lloyd will elevate not just the whole unit, but also whoever his running mate is. Wallace is still very young, I think he's only 23 with two years of exp now. Cherelus can handle starting, he's just fighting with staying healthy. Kuwatch I think is going to be a contender after a couple week of understanding the system.  I mean Lee will be against..... what nearly 10 NFL-level WRs, he's going to get work and its up to him if he can hang.  I think its fair to expect 12th +/- 3 or 4 spots.  You know this, it boils down to how healthy everyone stays.....cause if dbrown, horn, Lloyd, Michael Jackson, or tervon miss extended time.....no way 10th can be reached. IF all the names above remain haethly, I do think 10th should be the goal. They are a young unit and added talent to a 16th ranked unit. Its time to march forward!!
    • Varying degrees all around but it starts at the top. That is where the buck stops. It has been 8 years of stupid, long before Morgan came back. Or Tillis was hired. Made it to the top of stupid mountain in 2023. Stayed in stupid limbo for a while, now we are prepping to scale the next mountain. In this case, I like those guys’ roster building better than what we have had so I am okay with them as our current pawns in the game of Bryce.
    • Don't let me gas him up too much, but I hear this and that...... I seen a wide body man with a quick burst, that's able to shed blocks and if extends his long arms its over. He tore up the OL in the senior, you seen about 10 plays and the dog walking OLman. There's other plays of him doing the same, just have to deal with fetus talking over the plays. Plus there's this-  https://x.com/PFF_College/status/2018385471068332410?lang=en     I hope he's ready, cause Id like to see him starting and doing his thang with dbrown, nic, and Phillips.
