QB even if Luck stays?

I say we trade down and get a DT, or we could get Peterson or Newton. Also if Luck does stay I wouldn't mind us trading down to get a stud WR Like Green which really isn't a need but it would be nice to find Smiths replacement. Either way if Luck stays we should trade our first pick and try to get as many quality players as we can. Imagine what we can get for that #1 pick. We could get 2 1st rounders or maybe a 1st and second round pick this year and a future 1st or second rounder.

trade down to about the 5th pick and get Green, Peterson, or Fairley. if we dont trade down and Luck doesnt come out, take Bowers #1, then Luck, Alshon Jeffery, or either Matt Kalil or Jonathan Martin next year. hardly anyone knows about Martin. he protects Luck's blindside, and does a great job at it helping the rest of the Stanford offensive line to allow the fewest sacks in the ncaa. Matt Kalil is Ryan's brother, and also does a great job at protecting his QB's blindside (Matt Barkley). the only way i would draft Kalil or Martin over Jeffery or Luck is if Gross doesnt hold and false start as much and Clausen has a better season next year.

i would NOT draft another quarterback in this draft besides Luck. Newton is not ready to start in the NFL. Ryan Mallett is a gunslinger who will throw a ton of interceptions and i like Locker, but not at number one. If Luck stays in school, go with another offensive weapon and wait till next year for the quarterback.

The only thing I hate about this logic is that you are willing to put up with another lousy season. If you think Clausen is your man then fine, skip a QB and hope he develops. If not, then go out there and try to find your franchise QB. Enough with the "next year" theories.

1. Draft the best QB that fits the new coach's scheme. Trade down if Luck's not there (didn't come out, we lost the #1 overall pick, etc, whatever), but not out of the first round. Two first rounders would be nice. Trading down should be do-able this year for a change if a rookie cap is in place. There will no longer be a ridiculously big contract for the #1 overall that ruins a franchise if the pick doesn't work out. Throw out those old draft trade value charts, they were almost meaningless anyway and the game just changed with a rookie cap.

2. Hire the best vet QB that fits the new coach's scheme.

^No compromises, even if it's Blaine Gabbert and Kyle Orton. Don't care. Both are upgrades over what we have, but get the absolute best possible. Don't care if the draftee is "not ready". No rookies are "ready". Some get the kiddie playbook for awhile and a good team carries them while they develop, that's all. That's why we need the best of both until the QB position gets fixed. Clausen ain't it. Too many mental, physical and social handicaps. You're welcome to your opinion, but I've seen enough. Time to cut bait and go fishing.

3. Do the best we can in FA/Draft with what we have left at DT/OL/WR/CB/LB. Priorities depend on which FAs we can convince not to desert this sinking ship and who fits the new offensive and defensive schemes. They will be different. The only question is how much.

I have the solution to Carolina and it seems so easy.......Pick up McNabb as a free agent and Hayensworth from Washington, both Washington is going to let go or don't want. Then draft AJ Green. This will give Jimmy Clausen the necessary time to develop into a quaterback and not throw him in. I think you have the think that when Stewart and Goodson are healthy would be a great double back system and let go of Williams.

So, become the Carolina Redskins?? no thanks

So, if Luck stays, I basically see us either going BPA or trading down. Those would be my next best scenarios. And if we do trade down, I'd personally be fine with getting Mallett. He's not the smartest, but has all the tools necessary to be a strong NFL quarterback. I exclude Newton because he may not even declare either.

Mallett has all the tools that Luck has, and has done it against NFL Talent, unlike Luck.

Locker is just an athlete playing QB, he's not very good

locker has some big potential, yes he had a bad season but was injured and the "talent" around him is really not a help.

for the guys who want aj green: 1.you have enough wr-rookies on your roster, you should rather get some veterans via FA.

2.you have BIG problems at DT...you could risk a BPA-pick like green or peterson and take a DT with your 3rd-rounder b/c the d-line class is deep enough to get a nice 2nd-round prospect in the 3rd but it's a risk.
