Cheating

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

there are levels of cheating that are acceptable IMO.

referees are to decide when the cheating tips the table too much in favor of one side or another and then make a call. But they cannot, will not, and in my opinion never intend to call everything. It's just not practical, nor does it help the game in the slightest to go that route.

.

NO NO NO NO

In order to create a credible product, the league must establish a standard set of rules and apply them as uniformly as possible across the league, not just between 2 teams on the field. The credibility of that product is shot as soon as the fans believe that records, individual and team, are manipulated. What you suggest is that the league has its part time officials orchestrating an entire season at worst, or having significant impact on outcomes at best. They certainly miss calls, maor eoften than desired, but there is no way they would intentionally ignore calls. That would not be good for the game.

Lemme throw a hypothetical out there to ya.

We know Gregg Williams is a POS who will coach his guys to play dirty and congratulate them for it when it's over. So let's say we're playing the Saints and we see a couple of pretty blatant cheap shots on our QB, RB, WR, whoever.

Our new coach - whomever he may be - is angered by this. In response, he coaches his defensive guys to take a late shot or two on Brees, Colston, Bush et al. He also tells the Big Uglies to feel free to get a shot or two in on the defense. He's willing to take the penalty flags to teach these bastards a lesson.

Do you approve?

Do we win the game? :D

I don't cheat to win, but I will admit I personally have a morally gray area when it comes to retaliation for blatant shitheadedness.

I wouldn't want our guys to play dirty just to win, but if GW the POS has his guys taking cheap shots to knock our (obviously hypothetical) offensive weapons out of the game, I don't believe in turning the other cheek.

Chalk it up to lack of religious principles I suppose.

For instance Fujita should have had his balls pounded flat for this ultimate cheap shot.

Funny, but the steroid scandal that followed the super bowl has tainted that accomplishment for me. I would add, however, that probably the majority of pro football players seek an illegal advantage. Our OLINE was aging and when they got caught, they started sucking immdediately in 2004. I wondered if we would have been able to get there without it.

so the 2003 panthers are cheaters, and shouldn't be considered one of the best teams the franchise has ever fielded?

do i condone cheating? no.

will i take the time to find out if a team has won honorably? no.

if the accomplishment aquired thru cheating isn't reversed (a W becomes an L), then what's all the fuss about in the first place?

As I mentioned earlier it was more than just the OL.

Other than the OL'ers of Donnalley, Mitchell, and Steussie...

I believe the DL'ers were Henry Taylor, John Milem, dont remember what Louis Williams was (OL I think).

Wesley Walls (TE), Toad Sauerbrun (P)

Those we know about. Pretty commom knowledge that other D-siders included those with initials like JC, JP, MF.

Not a very admirable group,

Lemme throw another one at ya.

Let's say on a punt, the coverage team gets down the field and one of the gunners kneels down and touches the ball at the three yard line, effectively downing it.

But then he looks around to see if any of the refs are looking and - seeing that they aren't - quickly moves it back a yard or so :sosp:

What do you think of that guy?

I would think he's pretty stupid. The spot of the ball is reviewable by replay.

that too far down a useless convo, sorry Mr. Scot.. lol.. if that happened, then whatever, review it if we saw it.. if not, you got away with something.. that poo does happen in games now, perhaps not as obvious.. How about Heath Miller getting knocked the fug out and the refs did see it?

here's the real question.. assuming McDaniels let out a can of worms that seems to have been forgotten already and some major poo was going down with the Pats..

WOULD you all take those 3 Superbowls? or are you really going to sit there and tell me you'd rather have lost in '03 and have been fairly mediocre in the last decade....?

assume the we didn't get caught just like the Pats...

honestly, I'd take the Superbowls..

    • Bryce hasn’t played well enough to justify that sort of extension. If the organization wants to roll with him at QB moving forward, any extension they offer should be commensurate with his play. For “passable” QB play (however you want to define that…I use the term generally to mean that he’s a game manager that you can win with if you build the rest of the team right but that he’s going to limit your ceiling and potentially lose you some games here and there; I do not think he‘s “the guy.”), the going rate is going to be a lot lower. Something more in the 3 years 45 million range. And if Young thinks he can get more elsewhere, then he’s free to try to do so.    Whether that would be an OK decision depends entirely on the answer to the premise of this thread. Do you think you can meaningfully improve on Young? If the answer is no, whether yet be due to lack of attractive options in the draft or free agency and no one willing to trade a good QB for a decent price, then I don’t have a problem with rolling with Bryce (sans 5th year extension and/or with a reasonable contract) and taking some late in the draft flyers and exploring worse options (but better than Dalton) in free agency.  Paying less for a QB does allow for the flexibility to build strength elsewhere on the roster, and then you hope you can upgrade from Bryce later.
    • No .  He got paid and is rich now.  not saying that is it 100% but it wouldn't be the first time we have seen something similar happen to not so hungry players.
