Clausen Poll .....

I will say (B)...with a caveat.

Clausen's horrible play does have a lot to do with the other circunstances you mentioned. However, I do not see anythign in his game, or get the feeling that he is a franchise QB.

He may turn out to be good, but I doubt he will ever be great.

Clausen is struggling because he is a rookie, on an offense with several rookies in key positions, and a oline that has struggled in large part due to injuries. He also has a couple of flaws in his mechanics that need to be fixed or overcome. I am not convinced he is a future NFL starter, but I am not convinced he is not a future NFL starter either. The jury is still out.

Why is the "rookie" excuse okay to pin on Clausen but the remaining rookies on the field don't seem to be having problems... unless those problems are specifically related to the QB getting them the ball.

The 3rd down and 17 5-yard pass play is not a rookie issue- it's an issue of him checking down the vast majority of the time.

a) Clausen is terrible because he is ...well.... terrible.

B) Clausen is terrible because he is playing behind a suspect OL, has 1 veteran WR with a hurt hand, and has Jeff Davidson calling plays.

What say you?

Can't rule on Clausen until B) is shored up in their pass protection. So far, I agree with Davidson Deac that it could go either way with what I've seen of him.

Could this not be an issue with recievers not getting open?

Lets face it, a 3rd and 17 is a killer for any rookie QB with 2 rookie WR's on the field.

Until B) is fixed, we'll never really know about a).

I think he's going to get a ton better after an off-season of work. But I also wonder if his time in Carolina is done. He could easily become a Chad Pennington type and have a fairly productive career. But he's going to need a better situation than the one he's been given in Carolina to make that happen.

Not sure about that. If the Panthers had a rushing attack like last season I think it would have been an ideal situation for a young QB. We all thought the running game would be strong over the offseason. Hard to believe the loss of Otah had that much of an effect, but maybe it did.

    • At least Rivera got the Super Bowl, and then lost is because he refused to adjust.  Rod’s likely will never get to the Stanley Cup unless the team he coaches is stacked and can overcome Rods weird decisions making.
    • Reddit has one of the most toxically positive fan base. You cannot criticize the team at all. If you do downvoted.
    • We've literally seen him hop around the pocket to survey the field in multiple occurrences. Defenses have this on tape. Cam and QB's like him built the way he was height and strength wise could get by on those natural gifts in their prime. Bryce Young is unequivocally going to have to go above and beyond with his footwork in order to carve out not just a long career but an elite career worthy of a top overall draft selection. We should be able to wholeheartedly agree with one another on that. Intermediate sideline throws without placing the ball out of bounds where the receiver has to contort themselves or make an absurd acrobatic catch for it to be a completion. And yes developing a better chemistry in the deep passing game with his receivers to avoid miscues. Both areas will need to see improvement if the young offense is to develop the way we hope in 2025. And we don't necessarily need to be winning mind you. But development of the supporting cast requires this from Bryce. We have invested a ton of capital in the offensive line. We've invested heavily in WR. We've invested in our backfield. We've invested in TE. We've got a young up and coming offensive minded head coach. The expectation should be for our redzone efficiency to improve significantly. That is not just on Bryce Young. But at the end of the day it will always begin and end with him more often than not. It's always been that way and that's just the nature of the position in this league. And not for nothing but before we drafted Bryce Young nobody was going around here saying we need elite play across the board and top shelf coaching for him to be effective. His biggest selling point was his ability to succeed off script and make something out of nothing. We're certainly going to have to see that come to fruition. Now we wait.
