I agree. Too many people here overreact over the smallest thing.

So who's overreacting?

The guys joking and saying "Cut Williams," or the guys getting upset at the guys joking?

I am all in favor of taking pride in what you do and giving it your full effort. "Heart" is one of the most overused and ambiguous terms in sports. When a team gets flat out beat on the field, rather than say they didn't execute, people like to say "they had no heart!" When a underdog upsets a more talented team its almost never that they caught some breaks or that they just played better on that day, its "gee, those guys showed some heart!" I've just grown sick of the lazy reliance on the word, and therefore, the adjective "heart" is in my vocabulary garbage bin right next to "scrappy," "110%," and "upside."

I couldn't disagree more. Anyone who's ever played football, even on the high school level, or any sport for that matter, knows the meaning of "heart."

You know, this whole conversation on heart is like a bad Nietzsche essay. Heart is a concept, just like determination and "giving it your all." However, the concepts themselves aren't enough, because they're taking a lot out of the power of the "true concept." We say the word love, and we THINK we know what it means, but really we have simply taken the "concept" of love and put it on a level we can understand and control. Same with heart, and determination, and all the things we use to describe football teams; some people have said it's overused and inaccurate, when that's not the problem at all. The problem is we have taken a very ethereal and practically indescribable concept and tried to shrink it down in a five or ten or fifteen letter word. So no, the word heart isn't inaccurate, but perhaps it's not effective enough. Perhaps more than one word is needed to more accurately describe the state of events that transpires on the "profound" realm in a football game.

Try describing a chair without using the word "chair". I imagine the description would take much more than one five letter word. Words exist for a reason: to simplify description. Heart can be defined as a general measure of one's hope, desire, and self-esteem usually referred to in direct contrast to one's lack of skill or ability. Just as anyone who has ever supported their weight on a flat platform held up by three or more straight beams knows what a chair is, anyone who has forced themselves to succeed despite overbearing odds knows what 'heart' is.

Of course, I wouldn't expect someone who references Nietzche to have a great understanding of the word 'hope' :D

      Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.

      Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.

      I think people aren’t patient enough with Young. It can take a few years for a QB to develop. Look at Darnold, Baker and most recently Daniel Jones.   he hasn’t been able to put up big passing numbers either cause of how much we run the ball. You can tell our coaching staff still hasn’t took the training wheels off Bryce and let him go all out. We’ve had some pretty bad receivers as well. We finally got a true number one last year and look how much Bryce improved. Still we didn’t really have any depth behind TMac. Coker was hurt for a lot of the year and XL was our #2. How many big plays or TDs has XL dropped? I think this year can be the year we see Bryce able to hit his stride. If not then we can start looking for another qb but I just ask people to be patient.
