Trade the #1 pick

Man, I just watched a bunch of highlite videos of numerous college QB's. Luck, Locker, mallet, etc....

I've come to an opinion - just trade that #1 pick and garner some additional picks..... then draft TJ yates in the 3rd round and steal a solid QB.

His highlites look as impressive as any of the others - only difference is he didn't play for Stanford, Auburn, Alabama....etc high profile schools

He can make every kind of throw - and he can scramble when necessary. He's cool under pressure and has a short memory when things go bad (in other words he doesn't cry over spilt milk).

Trade that #1 for additional picks and get a good QB without financing the farm.

highlites start at 1:08

This truly is the dumbest thing I have ever read on this board and I have read some really dumb things.

Yates is pretty athletic and played pretty damn great for what he had this year but if Luck comes out we take him imo.

I certainly would like Yates over Pike but no need to draft 2 QBs again. Luck is supposedly NFL ready and a franchise QB according to scouts, analysts and jock riding fans so can't pass on that.

Homers. but I agree trade the pick.

Why the heck would you trade this pick? What possible good could come from passing on a guy that is being touted as the most sure thing at QB in the last decade?? Its the most important position in sports, a position where we have NEVER had a franchise QB and after 15 years of franchise existence you want to trade our first chance at getting one?? For what?? A defensive linemen or WR and a couple other role players?

I'm still a believer that if Luck's not there no one is gonna want to trade up to the #1 there really isn't another caliber player.

On a side note about trading, it's really strange, the way the draft order is falling it's looking like the first 10 picks will all get what position they need the most at their spot. With the draft order right now, and the idea that most likely the teams looking at trading up will be looking at QB, the highest pick that belongs to a team that might want a QB is Seattle at 11. While everyone that's looking for a QB below that pick will be able to get a 1st round worthy QB (Arizona, SF, Buffalo). So if Luck is not there they probably wont trade up since they should be fine where they are.

To sum it up, if Luck isn't there no ones going to trade up for that pick. Also to those who ask "what if he is there?", With an ENTIRE new staff we probably go QB.

Don't trade the pick unless you can get the Herschel deal. I don't want to hear about getting a 1st this year, 1st next year, and a 2nd pick this year. Those three players could be busts and Luck turns out to be the best QB in the NFL two years down the road. I would rather have 9 or 10 busts, and Luck turns out to be the best QB two years down the road.

No group of players are worth "the best QB in the NFL" which Luck could be in a few years. If we trade out of getting Luck we are the dumbest franchise in the NFL and JR doesn't deserve to own a team. Its not going to happen though...

I remember watching Yates play, he has improved since his horrible days as a qb. I don't see him being a successful Qb in the NFL. After all he has had some talented WR's to throw to and still sucks. I don't understand how anyone would consider this guy to be drafted unless you are a die hard UNC fan and if you are it explains why you have made this dumb thread.

    • Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.
    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
