any more Luck/Harbaugh skeptics?

Seriously? :skep:

It looked like heavy blitzing really threw Luck off his game on certain plays. He didn't get sacked all that much this and his O-line is very good. So it seems like the whole cause and effect of pressure on a QB is amplified with him.

He was very good in a lot of other ways. But he did look mortal tonight.

It's just one game but I'm a little worried about how he would do if pressured consistently.

Who exactly would you rate higher?

Honestly, I don't know. I'm just keeping my options open with a little healthy skepticism ;). When it comes to the draft, there has been way too many busts, way too much BS for me to be so sure of any prospect so early in the evaluation process. Once again, it's not that I don't like Luck, the game simply doesn't give me the conviction everyone else seems to have.

Two things:

1) Anyone who changes their opinion of a player widely regarded as the best prospect to come out of college in a decade off of one game is entirely too fickle to make these decisions

2) If you watched the game and paid attention to Luck's play rather than the outcome of each play he was not thrown entirely off his game by the heavy blitzing. Was he superman? No. Did he handle the pressure well until his running game backed them off of the pass rush a little? yes he did.

How many QBs do succeed when the other team can get consistent pressure?

Luck didn't look any different to me than he did the other times I've seen him play.

Likewise, I've seen guys like Brady, Manning and Brees make big mistakes under similar circumstances.

People shouldn't be looking for perfection. That's what "highlight reel" scouting gets you (unrealistic expectations).

Some people can't be pleased. Some tuned in expecting current Peyton Manning to be on display. The thing with Luck is he has a tremendous upside and thats what drafting someone is all about. If he doesn't develop anymore than what he is now then he'll be a bust. If he builds on what hes already got going for him then you have something special. Thats the risk you take with a draft. Based on what he can already do and where you project his potential will take him he is worth the #1 pick. Whether that works out or not is the risk you take.

I won't even use the game to justify whether we draft Luck or not. However for me, it is rare that a player is universally touted as the both BPA and QB. I mean it is not even a close second. Maybe one or two out of hundreds of draft boards is he not rated as both BPA and best QB. There will always be spots you can improve through the draft and having several draft choices does help you rebuild. However I can't see passing on a prospect of that level. If we suck next year, then we can trade down and fill the holes. If Luck is available we absolutely have to pick him. If he doesn't come out, and there are no takers for the #1 pick, I am a firm believer in BPA.

As far as Harbaugh I don't rate him higher or lower than any other NFL assistant. However getting a young coach with enthusiasm and a pedigree seems to be a great way to energize both the fan base and the team. However I am not sure if JR is willing to get into a bidding war after all his fiscal responsibility talk. Believe me there is going to be a bidding war, he is the "IT" coach this year.

I am mildly confused as to how you rate Harbaugh equally with all of the NFL assistants (who are in and of themselves not equal). Can you break that down for us?

I was very impressed. The one INT was questionable, but I don't know that it wasn't just a very good play by a very good CB. He did throw one really stupid pass, but that can be fixed.

He made a variety of throws that demonstrated poise, accuracy, arm strength and touch.I didn't see anything that really concerned me.

Udogg i would like you to list your criteria for "rating" a potential coach and explain to my why Harbaugh is just the same as any other NFL assistant.

1. Pedigree (did he play, was he from a coaching background, family background, etc.)

2. Coaching experience/length of coaching.

3. Performance of Offense/Defense that he coached.

4. Does he have a scheme/philosophy or is it more flexible type coaching

5. Is he a leader. ( Just because someone is like Rex Ryan doesn't make them a leader imo, same if they are like Toney Dungy.)clarification I am talking about demeanor, not saying Rex Ryan or Toney Dungy aren't leaders.

6. Does his philosophy go along with the GM/Owner.

Since I don't have every coaching canidate for the Panthers resume in front of me, how can I say Harbaugh is by far the best coach available?
