Harbaugh to Miami: 99% Done

But again, what have these college prospects done for everyone to be ok with paying them so much? They haven't done crap either, and overall, I say more than half of them turn out to be busts and never earn their excessively overpaid contracts.

I actually think coaches are disproportionately underpaid when compared to the players, as important as their position and as they are to this game. Out of all sports, I can't think of too many sports where the coaching decisions during a game can have such a direct impact on the outcome of each play and game.

If the system was fair then the DC and OC would be paid more then the head coach because in most cases they're the ones calling the plays to make the team successful.....

you get as much money as you can if you have no loyalty to the situation. even then, you should still at least consider the money thrown at you.

strike while the iron is hot because there is no guarantee that it will be as hot later.

Yeah I dont blame him at all and more power to him. I just find it rather ironic that some here crap on JH (not in this particular thread, but others) because it was said we would not pay him what he wanted...so (he's a greedy azz money hungry coach) and yet justify Luck coming to the draft by using the same principle (Luck should be a greedy azz money hungry player who strikes while the iron is hot) justification.

I'm not sold on Luck, but I do hope we get him (and keep him). However something about how money is applicable justification for one guy(Luck) and yet when in the case of another guy (JH) is somehow wrong just seems silly.

They are called assistants for a reason, and the HC typically can step in and overturn a decision at any time to run a play in most clubs. Ultimately all the responsibility still falls on the HC.

True but you don't see too many head coaches overruling their coordinators in the NFL.....

The hissy fits being thrown on the Niners board put ours to shame

No plans to post over there (especially given that our situation is far from settled, glass houses ya know) but it's entertaining reading. Especially given that just a few days ago, some guys from their board were over here puffing their chests that they would get Harbaugh and Luck.

There's an 80 plus page discussion about Harbaugh having a "handshake agreement" with the team. Also, one guy is suggesting that Goodell show force the Dolphins to compensate the Niners if they violate the Rooney rule in the hire.

(not really sure how he gets that as an option)

I can't really see why an OC or DC should be paid as much as a HC since they are typically only directly responsible for one side of the team, while the HC presides over everything, but either way, the point still stands. Coaches in general are disproportionately underpaid compared to players, especially ROOKIES!

I really do believe NFL rookies get spoiled with money and perks far beyond to the point where it becomes unproductive and detrimental to the sport, financially and morally.

They just get far too much.
