No reason to panic, we still have one option for the QB position

I know today has been a horrible day for us fans. We all hoped that Luck would come save our francise but as Luck would have it we didn't. Now we are going to see a million of threads on how people hate Luck or how he was a bust anyway or how depressed they are he didn't declare. Please people don't waste our time by posting anything on Luck. He made his decision to stay, end of story until next year. Please NOOBS let it go.

Now that I have that at my chest lets look at possible qb options we already have. Luck not declaring may actually help us. I know it's hard to say that right now but now we are going to give Jimmy Clausen another year to mature and with a new coaching staff he may improve. If Clausen does have a good year which is a long shot but remember Eli manning? he had a similar rookie season so now we will give Clausen another year. If Clausen does show improvement then maybe not getting Luck will work out for us. We can now draft other positions that are much needed like DT, O-line, DE and CB. Also since Luck isn't declaring we can now trade down and get multiple picks. I don't know any team that would want to do that and have no idea if our front office will decide to do it but we can only hope to do it.

I honestly don't want to waste a pick on QB this draft because I don't see any Qbs worth the #1 pick. People want A.J. Green which will be a good move for us but I have a lot of faith in our WRs.

One other option is that we keep Matt Moore. With a new coach I feel this guy can be the player we thought he would be coming into this season.

One other option is that we let Clausen play and give him the sink or swim option. If Clausen plays another bad year then we will more than likely be able to get Luck. If Clausen improves then it will be a good think we didn't draft Luck.

What are our biggest needs besides Qb coming into the draft? I think we need to plan ahead and help our future Qb should it be Luck, Clausen or someone else. Should we go ahead and get a wide receiver to replace Smith? or should we get an offensive linemen to help protect our QB? either way you look at it our team needs to draft players that can help our offense.

I don't think that this year there are any Offensive Linemen that are in the top 5, I also couldn't tell you if this draft is loaded with offensive line talent. I think this draft has a lot of good WRs, Cbs and Defensive linemen. All three are big needs for us.

We could draft a much needed Defensive Tackle or get Paterson which could make our defense top notch. Our next coach looks like he will be a former defensive coordinator which could mean we will get defense with the first pick. I would hate this but then again can you imagine what our defense could do with a fresh DT that gives CJ and Brown/Hardy help to get pressure on the qb? if we have a top notch D then we wont have to have to worry about having a good offense.

Our offense will have Jeff Otah back next year which should instantly improve our line. Having a new O-lineman might seem like a need but with Otah back we might already have what we need. Wide receiver is a bigger need, Smith had a horrible year and he doesn't have the right attitude towards Clausen which could hurt Clausen mentally. With Smith gone Clausen won't have to worry about him harassing him on the side lines. Lets face it Smith is not the player he once was, he has lost a step and has droped too many passes. I could blame him just as much as he blames Clausen for the reason why our offense sucks.

I love Smith and he has been a big play maker in the past but I feel that our offense struggled because we expected him to make the big catches and he never made a catch over 39 yards this year. He also dropped many catches that he has made in the past. Blame it on the QB but when your drop catches in your hand its not the QBs fault. Our offense has always used him as our go to receiver and we must find a new guy to take his spot. La Fell is a possession receiver so we can't expect him to make big plays, which leaves us Gettis who could be that guy but he doesn't have the speed that Smith had. I'm not giving up on Armanti Edwards who posseses the speed that Smith had but he is a project and might not work out. This pretty much means we need to draft a wide reciever. I feel that in today's NFL you need to have atleast one fast WR that can make the big plays. We used to have a player that could do that but Smith is past his prime, I don't see any upcoming UFA's that could be that guy so lets look at players in the Draft. Is AJ Green the answer? What about Julio Jones? Michael Floyd is a good WR but doesn't have the speed we need. I honestly don't want us to use the #1 pick on a WR but I feel that these players would be better picks later on in the draft Leonard Hankerson is said to be the best WR coming out of Miami and yes people have said he is better than Irvin which would be nice to have. Justin Blackmon is a big play maker but I don't know if he is going pro and will probably go in the first round, Ryan Broyles is another player that I think could be the answer but could we get him with our third round pick?

We have a lot of problems that we can now fix this draft thanks to Luck not declaring. Next year we can worry about Luck but lets discuss about other players that can make a difference with our 1st and 3rd round picks.

Wow that was a long idea...

...personally I like the Blaine Gabbert Express

I don't. Remember Chase Daniel? he was a good Mizz qb and see how he turned out in the NFL. What round is Gabbert projected to go in?

Also sorry for saying so much in a post, I just had so many ideas to talk about and I don't want to see a million threads on Luck and the next QB to draft.

    • It’s one thing if we’re converting the salaries of a Turk Wharton or Tommy Tremble.  This is Derrick Brown.  He’ll end up with a whole new contract in a couple years anyway.  And he’ll earn it too.
    • My general thoughts on the roster as it stands right now:  - Most interesting positions to watch: TE, NT, WR.  - If we add a TE I feel like it'll be a bigger name FA or Kenyon Sadiq in the 1st round. I don't expect us to take a TE that early with our need at tackle, though, so it's likely one of the top FA TEs or we ride with Tremble/Sanders/Evans again. Signing a mid-level FA or drafting another mid-round TE isn't going to help us at this point. We have three of those guys already.  - I don't buy the 1st/2nd round WR hype. I do think we will sign someone to play the slot because XL is... not good. John Metchie, Juan Jennings and Calvin Austin would make sense if the money does.  - NT could be interesting because I don't get the sense that they view Bobby Brown as a true starter. This could be a position we look to add a veteran starter at or possibly take one early in the draft.  - Devin Lloyd was a huge addition, but we need another starter beside him. I fully expect us to go after one in the 2nd round. Jacob Rodriguez makes a ton of sense here.  - The Luke Fortner signing gives us a veteran fallback at center this season. I don't expect he'll end up being our long-term starter, but it's likely he will at least begin the year atop the depth chart. Even if we draft a center it's unlikely that player ends up being a day-one starter. But I think right now we're likely targeting a center in the 3rd-4th round as that seems to be where the value is.  - We have no punter on the roster. Interested to see if we sign a veteran or go the draft/UDFA route.  - The OT situation is pretty bleak. I now fully expect us to take a tackle at #19, but even after the Stone Forsythe signing we also need better depth there. Brady Christensen would be an idea re-signing; I also like Jamaree Salyer from the Chargers as a younger option that still has room to develop.  - Guard depth is also lacking. Again, having a versatile backup like Brady Christensen would go a long way toward having some security for our entire OL, but even if he comes back we should add another veteran backup, IMO.  - I assume Lathan Ransom would be the starting FS if we played today, but we know Evero loves him some Nick Scott so I won't be surprised if/when we re-sign him. He's basically the defensive version of David Moore, unfortunately. Ideally we'd look to add a true FS, but I don't get the sense that is a big priority at the moment.  - Nickel corner is a need and I fully expect us to sign someone in the next few days to upgrade over Chau Smith-Wade. Long-term, I won't be shocked if we go CB earlier in the draft than people might expect given Mike Jackson's contract expires after this year.  - I wouldn't be shocked to see us sign a RB. Sean Tucker or Brian Robinson could be interesting. We know what Chuba can do, but Jonathon Brooks has to be considered a question mark at this point.
    • Considering the Raiders and Crosby’s disagreements about his health late last year and the Ravens’ history of being an extremely well run organization I lean towards the Ravens not being in the wrong here
