Clausen will develop into a fine qb next season.

Reminds me of the joke where the man asks if he would be able to play the piano after the operation and the surgeon said sure. Man says great since I couldn't play it before.

Translation: How is Clausen going to be a good quarterback under a new system when he was never a great quarterback in college. Sure he was decent and won some games but he was never the dominant quarterback who showed great leadership or could carry a team on his back ever. If he ends being a good quarterback it will be first time he has ever been outside of high school. Even with weiss's pro style offense in college he was simply decent not great.

Still. The Golden Calf of Bristol didn't have a Steve Smith in his face throughout the season. We don't know how he'd have done if he had a Smith breathing down his neck, probably worrying about getting the hell beat out of him if he looked at him wrong.

The Golden Calf of Bristol would have handled it differently. Go to you tube and watch the mic'd up game w/ The Golden Calf of Bristol. The Golden Calf of Bristol is a leader. You put him in any situation and he is gonna be confident. Now I am not praising The Golden Calf of Bristol....but The Golden Calf of Bristol at least displays something for you to put hope behind.

My beef w/ Clausen is he lacks everything. The physical attributes people look for, the play was horrible, and he showed none of the intangibles. If he would have given me something.....anything....I might sing a different tune. Good luck in the NFL as a QB not having mouthy WRs who think they are the end all be all to your offense running their mouths at you.

A QB that was a rookie and had a crappy Oline. Yeah I think i will reserve judgment for awhile. Clausen will get a chance to show if he has improved next year. QB's just come into the NFL and light it up. It takes time for them to adjust. Our Oline will be better next year and he will have a year of experience. Now with that said he better stop vacationing and get his ass in the film room.

OL wasn't that bad. QB play was.

Clausen looks just like he did at ND. His style of play simply makes an OL look worse than it is. Same reason you can put David Carr and another QB behind the same OL and protection looks worse for Carr.

No one expected Clausen to light it up. They expected him to show something.

Luck not entering the draft maybe the best thing to happen to the panthers ever! I know that sounds crazy, but think about it. Luck entering the draft panthers would have been stupid not to draft him. Now they are forced to think about the team as a whole. Not just one position. I say trade Smith (give Williams his money). Yea thats right. Maybe even Gross. For draft picks. Lets be brutally honest. Did Gross deserve that pro bowl nod this year. Pro bowlers don't jump offsides, hold ect. as many times as he did this year. Smith and Gross are on the end of their careers (starting to age out). With that being said, Draft aj green 1 over all. Draft new corner and olb with second 1st, early second round you got from smith and/or gross trade. And go ol and dl the rest of picks. thats what really needs rebuilding, not the qb. I am not saying Clausen is a Manning, Rivers, Brady, Rothelisburger type qb, but I do think it is possible he could be a Phil Sims OK qb with a good line in front of him. Panthers have two, TWO running backs with 1100 yds each in 2009. Both looked like garbage this year and they got hurt. That screams your line is AWFUL. And it beefs up your defense. Super Bowls are won and lost in the trenches. Could Clausen or Pike be successful with the biggest and best o line in the nfl you bet ya. Heck Edwards would look like Mike Sick with a great line in front of him.

bzzt

After Stewart came back from injury he went

98 yds

92

133

137

leading the league in rushing for that 4 game stretch

In the same games Clausen went

195

169

107

141

with 1TD and 3 INT

We have a funny o-line line in that way.

I couldn't even finish reading the title of this thread with a straight face. Watching him play on TV where you can't see the field gives you a false perspective that no WR's are open or the play goes dead before he can get the pass off. Go to a game where you can see the field like I did for the Arizona game and you will be making the same observations about wide open receivers like the 60 yr old women sitting behind me. I watched SS run wide open in stride while Pickles just watched and threw it to his closest check down 2 yards away when we needed 10+ yards. His side arm slow throw mechanics should have been addressed in college not the NFL. He will take 2-3 years to retrain his throwing motion and grow some balls before he becomes even a serviceable QB much less a "fine" QB.
