Trade bait

People get angry when you make suggestions about giving up a player or two to fill a need. They want to give away crap and get diamonds back. I wanted to start a thread where we mention players we might trade to fill needs, specifically QB, but it doesn't have to be. We will be weaker in one area to get stronger in another. Think of it as redistributing and equalizing the talent. Also remember that talent at the QB position, where talent is rare, is > talent at any other position.

Here is the list of Panthers we could trade. Some we may have to re-sign or tag, but you get the idea. Remember, in a trade, you have to give up talent to get talent!!

Mike Goodson: A KR, multi-purpose back with breakaway skills. In our new offense he may be even more valuable, but his string of 100 yard games gave him some value. The 2 fumbles didn't help him, but I think he has some serious trade value.

Dan Connor has the ability to start for many NFL teams, if he could just stay healthy. I would hate to lose him because he is great depth and special teams, but his value does us no good on the pine.

Deangelo WilliamsEasy people, easy. First read these points. In response to folks who say, "We need 4 rbs. We are going to an 18-game schedule." Here are some facts: Deangelo is awesome, which gives him value, of course. He has about 2 years left (RBs rarely hit 30 on top--he is 28). He was used HEAVILY at Memphis and has not finished a season since 2008. How will he play 18 games? The only way is if you use him less. If we have to use him less to keep him healthy, then his value to us decreases.

Steve Smith: I would not because what he can give us over the next 2 years is more than the player we get will give us in a career. However, we are young and rebuilding. We owe it to Smith to put him somewhere he can regain his form. He may want the trade, we may want him away from the youth. Either way, a team ready to win now might jump on Smith. Again, I would rather he give us all he has and retires here, but I suggest a trade for reasons other than the talent we would lose vs. get.

Charles Godfrey is (I think) an alternate for the Pro Bowl and I thought he was inconsistent this year. Jordan Pugh is good and waiting behing Godfrey, but a pro bowl free safety might have some value. Pugh has earned a place. Godfrey got a lot of picks this year (5 ?), but a few were thrown right to him. Go figure. Take advantage of his good fortune and consider using him as bait to get a good QB here.

I think that a trade is the only way we get a decent QB--the draft sucks at QB, the free agent market will as well. Will we make a trade? Hell no, so don't get worried about this too much. Just for sake of conversation.

I'd be fine with all except Godfrey, he is just gonna get better at this point.

I didn't like it too much either. However, if they wanted Godfrey and Connor for Kevin Kolb, bye CG. THe only reason I added Godfrey is because I think Pugh is going to be very good if he ever gets to play.

Williams, Connor YES!!!

rest... NO!!!

Goodson/Stewart would be awesome if were to trade Williams, and just having 89 out on the field makes the D respect the Pass no matter how shitty our QB play is. The only one i'm not sure about is Godfrey, at times he looks good, and at times you have to wonder what he is doing, but for the value a trade would create for Williams and Connor, I would trade them

Connor/Goodson/Godfrey most likely won't get you enough to make it worth your while.

I said we should move DWill to a desperate team like Green Bay before the trade deadline. You could really bend them over in a trade at that point but now, trying to work out a sign-and-trade, coming off two seasons on IR, his value is much much lower.

Same thing with Smitty, I would have tried to move him a year ago, but now he'll be lucky to net you a 4th.

This team just waits too long to try to move anyone.

careful, I said that a few months back and all the Madden fantasy traders jumped me saying he is worth anywhere from a 1st to a 3rd... what a joke:lurk5:

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
