A.J. Green thread

I was watching NFL films last night and they had the 1999 NFC championship game with the Falcons and Vikings. At the beging of the show they talked about how the Vikings was good but lacked a big play making WR, Thats when they drafted Randy Moss and we all know how that worked out for Minnesota. I couldn't help but think about the Impact AJ Green could make on our team. Sure we have a lot of holes and we don't have a qb but I believe we are better than what our record shows. The Vikes threw in Randal Cunningham and ended up having one the best offensive years in NFL history.

So I couldn't help but think about what Green could do for us if we sign a good QB which should be available this year in free agency. I honestly believe with Green, Vet Qb and signing 2 or 3 big names we could be one of those worst to first teams in the division. It all depends on if JR is willing to spend money this off season.

Now I'm not saying A.J. is going to be the next Randy Moss because we don't know how well he will play in the NFL but I think he is what our team needs to win.

From a mock at pigskinheaven.com, I wonder how accurate that rumor is about contract for #1 pick is...$15mil guaranteed over a 4 or 5 year contract isn't bad at all, negating the "you don't take a WR 1st overall" argument.

1. Carolina Panthers - A.J. Green, WR, Georgia

For the second week in a row, the top pick is the smooth receiver from Georgia, who officially declared for the draft this weekend. With the new top contract rumored to be set starting at around $15 million in guaranteed money, he won't be able to buy nearly as many ping-pong tables as last year's first pick, Sam Bradford, but it's still a nice payday for a guy who will only be four months removed from catching passes against UCF in a bowl game.

Green has been compared to Randy Moss by quite a few people. He's got the same type of talent and outside of one year at UGA with Matt Stafford never had a decent QB and still managed to produce.

He's the BPA. Don't be fooled by 'need' - he's the player that could have the biggest impact from day one. I'm not sure why everyone is so infatuated with Fairley because Oregon forgot to block him in one game. He's no better tonight than he was last week.

Many a poster here is going to feel mighty foolish in 2-3 years when Green is lighting up secondaries and making Pro Bowls while Fairley is traded for a 4th round pick to the Redskins.

    • Bryce has been in the NFL 3 years and still looks like a very mediocre QB. Most games are nothing but mediocre plays with a highlight reel every now and then.  He is a very INCONSISTENT QB and it’s very fustrating. He does not deserve a 5th year option, even though the Panthers and all the dumb asses in the front office will give it to him.
    • I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.
    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
