A Lesson From the Jets and Colts Game

You do realize a 7-9 team just beat Brees and the defending Super Bowl champions, right?

For anyone who didn't understand the point of this post: all I'm saying is that, contrary to popular belief, you can win in this league without an elite quarterback.

you can win, but its hard to win consistently. and you have to have a qb who is actually worth a damn, and not a guy who checks down 9/10 plays

Fwiw, I thought Hasselback looked pretty elite today.

I agree with you that an elite qb is not a requirement, although few can doubt that it helps. But a team certainly needs an effective QB. And thats something we haven't had since 2005.

I think that most people understand that.... The thing I have said is that you will not win consistently, or consistently be a super-bowl contender without one. That's why a lot of teams are in the playoffs one year, out the next, struggle for a few then make a strong run. Teams like the Colts, Patriots, Steelers are always in the running year in and year out.

It takes a lot, some luck, and great play to win in the post season. But Good play can always get you to the postseason.

For example, I think we could put a good team together and Matt Moore could get us to the playoffs and win a few games.... But would he be able to do that back to back to back seasons.... I doubt that. That's where Elite comes in.

The 3 teams you just mentioned are the best all around built TEAMS in the NFL year in and year out. Another key? Hands down they draft better than anyone.

Do they have damn good QB's? Sure they do, but you need to look at the team around those QB's THAT is the key. All 3 are the best at losing talent each year and being able to find talent just as good that no one knows to replace them and not miss a step.

Trade DOWN in this draft, pick up a QB later if you want, but get more picks and pray Hurney can draft like the 3 teams you mention.

    • 31st rushing D and 8 carries by Rico is coaching.  Rico is easily the best offensive weapon right now and it’s not really close.  *literally everyone knows Dalton is washed, horrible and shouldn’t even be a backup QB.   Drive 1? ZERO carries.  Coaching.  Drive 2 - Rico was playing great.   Did Canales lean into that or go for “balance”? Coaching. Drive 3 - ZERO carries.  Coaching  Drive 4 - 1 carry and opted for Jimmy Horn gadget rush (you can’t stick  with the Horn repetitive gadget runs each week and that’s not a better idea than getting Rico going)  Drive 5 - basically Dalton heavy as the half expired.  I don’t need to watch a game to know it’s coaching.  The gameplan wasn’t about setting Rico up to go off on a trash rush D.  It was bullshit harmony balance of the rush and the pass and making Hubbard feel good.
    • In the locker room after the Dallas game, multiple  players said FEED him when Canales mentioned Rico stats. That already made me think even the locker room wouldn't care if Rico got the touches rn. This is on Canales indeed and I agree n the Qb take.  We aren't winning  bc of Bryce  but he has been managing it. Had the Jets had Qb aptitude,  we could've probably  lost that game too. All they would've needed is 14 points. Regardless, we got a team  that's being built up and that position needs an overhaul.
    • I think he was trying to mimic the Lions with Montgomery and Gibbs. They are just more of the exception to the rule and Brooks was too much of a gamble to be a Gibbs type player. The Lions also didn’t sign Montgomery and draft Gibbs until their offense was nearly set. It was more of a luxury take the offense to the next level type of deal.
