Tonight!!! Can Cam change Panthers fans and coaches/organizations minds?

Recommended Posts

Vince Young put on as probably a dominating performance as dominating performances go when the Long Horns won the National Championship and Young has been garbage in the NFL, I would rather have a Qb that started in a pro style offense in College, because seriously who has come from a Spread and done well in the NFL.

with that said I'm not entirely against cam either.

Add in the fact that Sam didn't run 20+ times a game and you might be right. Many QBs take drops once they get the ball in the shotgun, Cam doesn't. Go to the Cam Newton TD thread and watch that stupid video and when it's 4th and 3 or 3rd and 4 I can't remember, he throws a 7 yard out. He gets the ball in shotgun and sort of shuffles his feet and delivers the ball. It's a good throw but if that's how he is when he is under center he will get killed.

Watch some of his time at JR collage though and even high school and you will see him take snaps under center and show good footwork. I think the system he is in right now uses more of his legs to draw defenders then the other systems. I mean it works so thats why they use it but as you said it dose not help him much any other way. He still shows good mechanics though and follow threw in his throws. I mean he is not NFL polished like Luck is but he def has the tools and a good throwing motion to make it work in the NFL like Bradford did.

I can imagine us drafting Cam, then running a similar offense they have in Philly, only logic that makes sense to me.

BTW, of all the guys we're debating here on drafting, only one has declared, and that's Peterson.

Then all the RBs would be a waste and also AJ Green has declared.

He CAN change my mind about him...

...right now I support the Panthers taking him if we trade down to the late first round and he is available. He would be a good bench warmer while he learns to play QB in the NFL...something you don't get from being in the spread offense in college.

If he plays like crap tonight...He would lose that support

See I keep going back and forth.

Imo, Green is the safer pick but we already have two young WRs so I just don't think it would make much sense.

I also think that Newton has star potential, but he also has bust potential...I think it's a 50-50 pick. However, if Newton does become the player he can be the reward would be amazing. I mean he's basically a Big Ben that can run. At 6'6" 250 he is bigger than any LB or DB in the NFL and is probably bigger than a few DL.

He's near impossible to bring down which makes him a threat to step up into the pocket and find a WR open or run. He can cut like an RB. His biggest worry is pocket prescence/foot work things. However if we bring Ramsdell in I think he could take those bugs out of his game.

In the end I think the reward outweighs the risk, take Newton. It's what the fans want and it could really pay off.

I want Oregon to win, but then again we need Newton to light it up so the FO will want to take him.

I've been on the bandwagon. I say draft Newton and sign Mcnabb.

i wouldnt mind doing that honestly

now, honestly, my opinion will NOT change, if he wins or loses, i like his potential, but dont think he's ready to start on day one which is why i would sign a McNabb, NOT Orton (he's average), NOT Kolb (didnt play well with a great Eagles offense).

There's a remarkable amount of hate towards Newton. The "establishment" doesn't like him for a host of reasons, none of which has anything REALLY to do about his skills as a player or really about football.

I'm pretty certain if he were to throw 33 for 33 for 500 yards and 7 TDs, then rush 250 yards for 4 more TDs, people would say he just played a soft college defense.
